Did you ask surgeon about his technique?

Recommended Posts

For example, I really would prefer my surgeon to place a suture into the sleeve and underlying tissue to prevent stricture. Is it inappropriate to ask about technique. As an RN I'm used to pissing doctors off..however I don't think I want my surgeon mad at me when he's operating lol.

Also I'm concerned about residents..as in I don't want them touching me. They can observe and take part verbally but I don't want them hands on. Did anyone else feel this way? I don't even know how to go about requesting it. Thanks!

I don't think it's inappropriate at all! Right now you're in the role of the patient, not a medical professional, and you have a right to be involved in your care and know what will be happening to your body.

I'm 100% with you and also don't forget to tell anesthesia that there is not to be any residents intubating you, only the anesthesiologist themself! I'm in healthcare as well and I've seen enough horror stories myself.

Yikes! I hadn't even thought of that. Thank you!

I don't think there is anything wrong with it. I am a nursing student and I did not want any student nurses working with me. It worked out that they came on the floor this week, a week after my surgery. I personally didn't want nursing students because the whole thing was very sensitive and I felt it would be awkward for me.

Just ask him how he does his procedures. I did, my doctor was pleased to tell me the step by step process. If he doesn't include the suture ask him if he would consider it and explain to him you know why other surgeons do that and so on. Any doctor who gets pissed about explaining what is going to happen inside of you while you are put to sleep shouldn't be allowed near you. Lol

It's totally fine. I asked my doctor about sutures, the removal of the fundus, what size bougie he planned to use, why he chose that particular

bougie size, and all sorts of things from my "list o' questions". He didn't seem shocked or insulted and answered them all. If anything, be proud you are taking ownership of your health!

I agree. Ask away! Any doctor who would not have been receptive to answering my questions would not have operated on me! Mine was great about telling me anything I wanted to know and I asked the same types of things you did. Good luck!

Ditto on asking. My surgeon explained each step of the procedure to me with a photo portfolio he kept. Nothing was left to the imagination and it made me feel well informed.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
