Anyone had issues with gout?

Recommended Posts

Wondering if anyone else has had issues with gout. I've had problems in the past but it only lasted a day or two. Last episode went on for two weeks until my foot was so swollen I couldn't put a shoe on. Went to dr, first Rx did nothing, second was prednisone. The prednisone is gone and so is swelling, but my foot is still very tender and must have lots of uric acid in it. I'm sure it's from my high Protein diet and all of the fish I eat now.

Any ideas or suggestions. Struggling with doing exercise when I can't even walk. And I am actually missing my fish :) - who woulda thought that would happen!!

That sounds very painful and uncomfortable. How are you doing on your Water consumption? Does increasing fluids help flush the toxins out of your body? Hang in there, hopefully this will pass quickly!

I had gout prior to surgery. Unfortunately, still have to take Allopurinol daily and Indometacin, as needed. I eat fish at least 3-4 times a week, but cannot say it has caused any issues. I make every attempt to take in 80-100 ozs. of Water a day, so I think that probably helps to keep the uric acid in check and minimize flare-ups.

Husband is 68 and has had gout since late 20's. He is on allopurinol and cholcicine daily. Maybe you should go back to dr and get put on a daily regemine of medication. I know over the yrs the amounts had to be changed for him because he would have attacks but remission is but a pill away.

My husband has gout issues. He is very sensitive to fish, lentils, alcohol, asparagus and brocolli. He try's to make sure that he gets 3L+ of Water a day. He takes a medication called Colchicine. He takes 1 tablet a day when he is in remission and 3/day when he has a flare up.

Just got my sleeve last week and now I am experiencing the worst gout flare I have had in years..I can barely walk. From what I read, all the traditional medications to treat a flare are too harsh on a sleeve. Some blogs have said pure cherry juice may help. I would appreciate any advise anyone could share.

Did you find anything to help with your gout flare? I am six days post op and having horrible gout flare. I don't know what to do.

I drank concentrated cherry juice and cut back on my Protein intake for a few days. It cleared after about 4 days. Good luck!

Here is what I do for gout. I put lemon juice and Water in a glass and drink as much lemon juice and water as I can stand over a week and that usually gets rid of it. The lemon juice is a natural way to get rid of the uric acid. I also drink lots of water all the time and drink at least one glass of water a week with lots of lemon juice. This has controlled my gout for years. I think your system has to adjust to the high amounts of Protein you will be taking in. I had a flare-up when I was first sleeved, but not in a long time.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
