Im not losing. Urghhhh!

Recommended Posts

I am not losing the way I think I should be. I read so many of you losing big hunks of weight by this time (I'm 5 weeks out) and I have stalled for 3 weeks already. I'm discouraged and disappointed and feeling defeated. I know I am doing everything right. I've joined a gym and I'm walking several miles a few times a week. I am trying to drink enough Water and get all my Protein in. I have been known to throw up part of my meal from time to time. But overall I'm consuming about 600-800 calories a day. Constipation has been bad for me but I think it's bad for everyone. My SW was 227 and CW is 203 I have lost 24 lbs. am I crazy? Is there something I can do to jolt this stall? My husband says I'm being silly and looking at the glass half empty. I feel frustrated. Help!!!

24 lbs in 5 weeks is great!!

What do you mean stalled for 3 weeks already? Did you lose 24 lbs in 2 weeks and nothing since?

I know people get frustrated when they don't see the scale move as often as they want but you have to think of the big picture.

Follow the plan that you are supposed to. The scale will move again. Promise.

I'm going through this as well, I keep wondering if I did something wrong.

Yes. I lost 22 in 2 weeks and then only 2 lbs in 3 weeks. I keep thinking I'm doing something wrong too. I read about girls eating nothing but bacon and steak and chicken and cheese and yogurt and I'm just wondering why????

I gained in week 1, lost in week 2, and stalled for weeks 3-5, then lost a ton in week 6. We all lose at a different rate. Try not to stress out too much in the first couple of months. You are healing. Follow the plan, get your Protein and fluids, and walk. Good luck!

Your body needs to adjust after dropping 22 lbs in 2 weeks. Many have a stall at that time. I prefer not to think of them as "stalls" but just part of the journey. What food stage are you at?

I am pretty much on regular food. I have no restrictions right now except the usual no bread or grains low carbs no citrus etc.

I hope this is how it will happen for me. I'm just so nervous that I'm failing at this!!

I agree with your husband :). Keep doing what you're supposed to be doing - the weight WILL come off. I remember being frustrated early on, but my doctor reminded me that my job in that time period was to HEAL with Protein and fluids...not to lose weight.

One thing we all need to remember, the scale does NOT rule our lives. We lose inches as well as pounds. We put too much emphasis on the scale, so do our doctors.

For one of my appointments they were unhappy I hadn't lost in the 4 weeks since my previous appointment. I looked the RN in the eye and said "perhaps I haven't lost pounds, but I dropped a pant size and I can walk long distances without being winded". She smiled and realized there are non scale victories too. We all want the numbers for our books, for their books.. PFFT !! To hell with that i say!

The first time I could tie my shoes withouth being winded, THAT was a victory. Fitting on the rides at 6 flags with my children for the first time EVER, THAT was a victory. Fitting on the seats in the plane, THAT was a victory.

Please don't focus on the scale... look at all the small things going on. I bet your panties are rolling down right now because they're too big! Your belt is at it's last eyelet because it's too big!

Keep up the good work and don't stress. Stress is an enemy in the fight for weight loss!

main thing is to track everything you consume.. If you are consuming correctly and still stalling you are probably losing inches. I think 24 pounds in 5 weeks is good too.. this is a journey.. I am in month 10 and have lost total 102 (87 since surgery) I have slowed to a crawl and still need another 30 lbs.. But I am accepting the slowness. As long as I am not gaining I am happy!! Good Luck in your weight journey

I was sleeved on the same day and I've lost about the same amount...I don't think it's bad as I've never lost 15 pounds in 2 weeks ever.

I was sleeved 8/2 but since ya'lls surgery day on 8/14 I've lost "only" 5 lbs. I think your loss and the. Person you quoted is fantastic!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
