Crab cakes as sliders?

Recommended Posts

This may be a stupid question but surely crab cakes are not slider foods are they? Or are they? Seems to me like Protein esp since these have lump crab meat and very little breading holding them together. But I ask because I ate an entire one and could have had the second one. In contrast I was only able to eat 1.5 oz of cheese for lunch on the plane.

I wouldn't think so... Even Ina Garten's recipe only calls for 1/2c bread crumbs and 1/2c mayo for 6-8 servings. The rest of the ingredients are crab (duh!), veg, egg, herbs, and seasonings. How long were you comfortable after eating it before you felt like you needed to eat again? That's probably the biggest tell. You might have started the 2nd crab cake and found yourself full or stuffed just a bite or two into it...

I hope not! Super yummy!! But maybe you just THOUGHT you could eat another one ya know? My doc said not to eat more than a 1/4 cup at a time.

It doesn't look like a very big one. I think it depends on how it's made. Some places use a lot of panko and some have little. I have had them (but it was in MD, where they know how to make them) and it was quite filling, just like fish is for me.

I would not consider that the worst thing you could eat. For me, it was a treat but still healthy enough.

I forced myself to stop at One, because our doctor too said only eat 1/4to 1/2 cup at a time. I ate the second one 4 hours later, but I honestly felt no restriction with the first one and felt like I could have eaten more, but was not about to risk it. Only second day on soft foods.

My husband and I are both finding that if we take a minute between bites we can eat without discomfort. Try to push that to 30 seconds or less between bites and ow! Ow!

Annie, many foods "slide" straight through to your intestines without giving you the feeling of fullness that Protein does. That is why we have to eat our Protein first. Typical slides for people seem to be junky things like chips, candy, ice crew, high calorie liquids etc. you should search sliders on this forum because eating sliders is a classic way to "eat around your sleeve" and gain weight. And we don't want that happening to us. :)

Yes, also not drinking with your meals. It will push the food through faster and won't leave you full for as long.

How far out from surgery are you?

3 weeks. Just started soft foods Saturday and have felt restriction with 2 ounces of everything such as eggs, cheese, refried Beans, chicken and fish. Just not the crab cake. Weird, hunh?

I mean this is how little I ate of my lunch (I took a pic to show my family because I thought the before and after were funny). I was on a plane and got the cheese plate, never intended to eat the crackers or fruit, but thought I'd enjoy the cheese.< /p>

You are still early enough out that you won't fully realize your restriction for a bit. You may feel some things now but as you really progress to all foods, you will feel it. That's why it's important to measure especially in the beginning. I believe what you may have felt with that food is pretty normal. I can eat a 3-4 oz piece of Tilapia but just less than 3 oz of chicken and 2 oz of steak. You will feel it more when you are further out.

It really gets so much better and you will love it the further out you get!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
