how long did it take to get off bp meds

Recommended Posts

tonight for the first time sense my surgery i was nauseous, it was from taking all my pills, i cant believe how many i am on and i think it is a little much for my little sleeve. i have 2 for bp, 1 for allergies, 2 for acne, my giant Multivitamin, and 1 for acid. I am supposed to take 2 more Multivitamins and a Calcium but i dont think i can right now. i am desperate for some of them to go away and since the only weight related ones are bp (and ive heard great things on the boards about leaving the hospital off bp meds) im hoping those may go away soon. i have lost 20 lbs since my surgery. i bought a chewable multivitamin from GNC but it is disgusting and i cant do it. anybody know of others that wont make me puke?

Ok here we go. For nauesa you can take 40mg of the Omerpazole (prilosec). It really dos help. Have had a lot of nauesa. I was sleeved on May 6th 2013 and stop my bpmeds about 1 week ago. I watch my bp and for the 1st time it is normal and staying there. I spoke with the doctor and he said I could offically stop bit. Hurry, it does not seem like a big thing but for me it is huge. As for your other meds I would check and see if they are alright to take after surgery. Goole them, example; taking calicum after gastric surgery. A lot of the extended release meds are not approved becuase it passes thru your stomache before it has enough time to be absorbed in the stomach. There is a huge list of no no meds and all should be aware of them.

remember, even very skinny folks can have HBP, so just go through and see... I use Unjury vitamine products.

Be very careful going off bp meds. I lost 104 lbs after lapbanding and my bp was perfect for 2 yrs (I only took at 2x a year at the drs office. Took myself off the bp pills. Like u, I took way too many pills (about 12 a day)This past June, I got that telltale headache. Went the Vons and checked it. it was 220/135. We were on vacation and I didn't have access to bp meds so I tok some of my mother in laws. After day 4 of extremely hi bp, I called my dr at home and aked him what to do. He sent me to the Er immediately. After a bunch of tests and a brain MRI, they found I had a TIA (very small stroke) from my hi bp.

I was advised by my dr never to take myself off pills of any kind. An that since it;s really hereditary (dad had first MI at 32 and die from 2nd at 43, mom had major stroke 18 mths ago at 65), I need to take them forever. Whether or not losing weight brings it down, it may eventually go back up again without me knowing.

Good luck!

My husband has had to keep a BP log. He wanted off but as long as she was seeing 140/anything our PCP won't take him off. She's wiling to reduce the dose but says that with so much going on post op, she's not willing to attribute all his lightheadedness and sometimes very low BP to a need to be completely off his meds. If you aren't already, recommend that you start logging it so you can make a case for reducing or realize you may not yet be there. It will likely come in time :)

Vitafusion gummies are delicious and seem sleeve friendly for us.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
