Anyone in No Nevada....Reno or Sparks?

No man will understand what women go through with their bodies... I hope your husband understands that just because you choose the surgery that it doesn't mean it was an easy decision. Even with this surgery we have to eat better and work out daily. Good luck to everyone on their new path :)

So, I finally got the courage to fill out the paperwork to make my first initial appointment only to find out my insurance requires 6 months of a doctors diet. Ugh!!!!! I've been off and on phentermine for over 3 years with no real weight loss.

Did anyone else have to do the 6 month diet?

I did not have to, but they said that sometimes if you have proof you may not need to do another time of it.

Yes I had to have 6 months of monitored diet and exercise. Fortunately my insurance went back 2 years and accepted my doctor records with my nutritionist.. I was diagnosed with being Type 2 diabetes 2 years ago so I had to start seeing an endocrinologist and nutritionist... Call your insurance and find out exactly what you need.... Usually you can even just do weight watchers for 6 months. Don't be discouraged.... The time will fly by quickly.

Just had my surgery on Tuesday the 10th.... It was not as bad as I thought it would be... The healing hasn't been bad either. In my opinion the pre-op liquid diet is the hardest part and I was only on it for 2 days per my doctors instructions. You will do great with the surgery.... Good luck :)

It's crazy because I started to inquire about having this procedure done back in April and the time went by so fast now that I look back. I am a huge chicken, I hate needles, shots, having blood drawn... even pricking my finger daily because of Type 2 diabtes... Everyday up until my surgery I felt nervous and anxious and it was always on my mind. I think the thing I dreaded most was getting an IV and having surgery because I had never done either beore. I did not sleep much the night before my surgery, got in bed about midnight and had to be at the hospital at 5:30 am which was 2 hours before my surgery was scheduled. Once they checked me in, a nurse took me back and put me in a gown. They checked all of my vitals and asked me some repetitive questions. Then it came time to get my IV, they numbed my hand first which thankfully I did not feel that little needle and then they put in my IV and I did not feel that either. (this was what I was fearing the most about surgery day). Once I was sitting there prepped for surgery they allowed my parents to come visit with me while I was waiting. Then the anesthesiologist came over and talked to me about the medication... and before I knew it I was out... I don't remember being in the operating room nor do I remember seeing the surgeon. I remember waking up in my hospital room and my parents were standing there... i was very groggy in/out of it... but I knew that it was over. I slept on and off that day, did not feel any pain because of the anesthesia. They had me up and walking the hospital floor within a couple hours of surgery. What was nice was while I was in surgery, they wrapped a big corsette type thing around me and it felt like it held my stomach in. So when I was up to walk, it felt very supportive. My advice for you when they get you up... take your time getting up and down becasue that is the hardest part. The more your walk, you will make the staff happy and it's really good for body especially in preventing blood clots. Basically they checked my vitals and made me walking everyone 1-2 hours, it was not bad at all. I also had an IV drip with pain meds so I could give myself medicine at any time. I did so well that I only ended up staying in the hospital one night.. and my nurses were great. Just take your time walking and sitting up and sitting back down... if you feel like you can walk at a regular pace then go for it! I had all this fear and anxiety over nothing... and the surgeon even told me a week before my surgery not to stress and that I will feel so much better once I have the surgery. Today I am 5 days Post-op and he is right. Sorry this is so long... but I feel like after all the stress and anxiety I went through.. hopefully this will help others not stress like I did...

As for any other advise, don't rush the food phases. I am still in phase one, one liquids only but I was told that the longer you stay on the earlier phases the more weight you will lose in the beginning. So don't rush each phase, one phase at a time. I am excited to hear everyone elses stories about this.

Good Luck to everyone on this... this is a major life changing experience!!!

I am in SeReno and had my surgery on October 18th with Dr. Ganser. He was very nice and was always asking me if I had any questions. I did have to do a series of 12 visits with a dietician before my insurance would consider it. And... well I am glad they did make go because I learned a lot before I actually started the surgery classes. I admit I have been having thoughts of regret because now I cannot just go out and eat whatever I want. But then I remember... that was the problem. So hopefully things calm down with my emotions.

I get a little better everyday. I feel very emotional and get so upset. I never realized how much I turned to food to cope. Sometimes I feel like I made a mistake having the surgery because I haven't found another outlet for my emotions but then I think if I hadnt of had the surgery then I would have been gorging and feeling like crap for it. So its really a double edged sword for me right now. I have good days and bad days. Cant wait to have everything back to normal when I can eat some solid food.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
