Recommended Posts

I would really like to have a friend or friends are that going through the pre-op process or was just recently sleeved. Someone I can talk to often, and even work out with. Support each other.

Let me know if interested. Thanks.

I had surgery at Lenox hill July 8. Where are you going? Always looking for buddies. I'm on the upper east side in the city

Congratulations! How is it treating you so far? I'm having mine at Mercy Medical Center in Rockville Center, on 9/3. I'm on 2 week pre op liquid diet right now.

I wonder if I will have the same feeling of weakness as I do during the pre op diet?

Yes you absolutely will. Ill be 7 weeks on Monday and Ian just now getting over it. Just remember it's normal and that first 6 weeks is not an indication of how life will be its part of the healing process. I did a vlog on YouTube from the start of my mission (people call it a journey...mine is a mission). My channel is newlifemelissa.

I'd be happy to answer anything so if you have any questions or want to vent email me any time! I had someone help me and it was (and is) the best thing ever. I hope I can do the same for you :).

Your videos are great and very enlightening. You also have a pretty great personality. Our starting weights are basically the same also and I'm 5'2 apple-shape.

Thank you! Apple is bigger on top right? I have skinny legs and the rest is - all round lol. I'm kind of losing like that as well. Can't wait for it all to catch up! How is your pre op going?

Yes usually a pretty wide mid-section with love handles.

Pre-op is going ok, I think. Some ups and downs - I have to be on a 2 week liquid Protein diet for 2 weeks and its pretty hard. I ate a few times, especially yesterday. I was so weak and miserable. But today I woke up and I lost weight. On Tuesday when I started I weighed 250, today I weighed 244.5. Sometimes I feel like a failure because I'm starving through this diet and sometimes give in to the urge to eat something. But mostly I'm sticking to the requirements. I don't want my surgery to be rescheduled due to my cheating, so I'm a bit nervous.

If it makes you feel any better I didn't have a pre op diet and had no issues with surgery. (I ate like i was going to the chair any min). Don't get hard on yourself. The next 8 weeks are going to be hard. Day 5 post op was the worst for me. But it helps to think all that you are feeling is temporary. Everyday things improve little by little. Including how you see yourself and your confidence levels. I'm by far not all the way there yet and I'm still learning everyday. But I can look back on my day 5 video and see how far I've come.

Not bad actually, besides low energy levels and the inability to sleep on my tummy, everything is a'ok! Are you excited about your surgery?

I'm very excited, but also nervous and scared. I just hope everything goes ok. I slipped a few times on my preop diet - but also I just hope I adjust well to losing so much weight.

Everything will be ok! Mercy is one of the best in the state I heard. My two week diet turned into a three day diet lol. I ate everyday and still lost 13 pounds. They wanted me to have 1200 calories of liquid and girl it wasn't working! I ate 900 calories each day. I didn't have an extremely fatty liver and they wanted me to do the liquid diet to jump start my weight loss, which i did, over a 6 month period. My heaviest was at 343, my last supervised diet visit I weighed 315. If that ain't a jump start I don't know what is!!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
