I am 4 days postop and I have horrible heartburn....

Has this happened to y'all, and if so what did you do?

It's common. I was put on a PPI from day two and it really helped. I didn't have reflux prior to surgery. Took the PPI for about four to five months and haven't needed it since then.

I had it bad too. I took generic prevacid for several months and very rarely need to take it anymore.

I couldn't handle the PPI, so I started using zantac and it's working great. If I forget to take it, I start feeling heartburn. I'm hoping to wean off down the road!

Get your doctor to prescribe you a PPI. My doctor requires it for patients for 90 days at least.

If you have break through heartburn with the PPI, Gas X strips are the best. Also it may take a few days for the PPI's to start working.

My doctor made it mandatory from day one to take Omerprazole DR 40mg EVERY day to prevent heartburn, and have not had it once! I also have to open the capsule and mix it in s&f/f pudding to take it. :)

Scottsgirl if you need to open your omeprazole/prilosec capsule tell your doctor not to give you the one with DR. DR means delayed release meaning it works over time. These capsules are not meant to be opened. Good luck! :-)

Very normal. Before sleeving, I had raging nightime reflux from a slipped lapband. After surgery, it totally went away. But after my first week, I had almost constant heartburn I'd never experienced before. Went almost a week with it (was put on Pepcid 3x a day following surgery). I gave my old rx of Prilosec a shot 2x a day and no more heartburn. Obviously the Pepcid wasn't working for me. No heartburn in about 3 weeks now.

Sometimes you need a different PPI. Not all of them work the same for all people. Give it a try. Can't hurt to ask ur dr.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
