I didn't have your vomiting issue, but it took a full 6 weeks before I was feeling human. Some people bounce back from major surgery and others take a while to get to the feeling ok stage. When I spoke with my doctor about feeling crummy and dealing with vertigo he suggested going back to the full liquid stage for a week and then trying soft foods. I found that the keys to my feeling better were the number of grams of Protein (at least 60 per day), how much Water I was drinking (at least 50 oz in addition to any shakes) and my overall calorie count (once I could manage 900 calories I started feeling a lot better). The bottom line is that everyone is different and you have to experiment to figure out what works best for you. Lots of people including your doctor can make recommendations, but figuring out what will and won't work for you is the key!

Savanna - I wish I could be less frustrated - I am 3 days post op - and all I have been able to hold down is crystal light - Water - and broth. I've tried the carnation instant Breakfast - I've tried the cream of Tomato Soup and cream of mushroom soup( none of which my stomach has been able to hold down) . I can't seem to digest the Vitamins well . My biggest frustration is not being able to eat actually healthy foods yet (fruit, salads). I'm afraid if my body isn't handling the simple milk down how is going to hold or digest regular food . Uughhhh!

Your diet is clearly different from ours but we were not even allowed anything except Clear liquids our first week after. Then 2 more weeks of full liquids. So it may just be that it's too early for your new tummy to tolerate it. At 3 days post op I was happy to be drinking crystal light. It's too early to worry about it. My blog here details, the first 8 days and the day-to-day difference early on is astonishing.

Give yourself some time.

Hi Roundy. I'm with you. I had my surgery on 7/29 and haven't been able to keep anything other than a bit of apple juice and Gatorade down and even then sometimes I can't keep those down either. I had lots of lab work, ct with contrast and upper GI series before they did an endoscopy (EGD) and found out that my new stomach twisted causing a stricture and all of my problems. Now I'm working through the treatments for the stricture. 2 hospitalizations for dehydration, 2 scopes and balloon dilations and now an upcoming stent this Thursday. I feel for you. It's miserable!

Hello Megancd,

I am sorry you are having problems too. I hope you get better fast and things get back to a semi normal state. I can't wait to look back at all of this and say or think i guess it really was worth it. We will get through this together! Wish you luck and i hope to stay in touch with you.

Thanks Roundy! And Yes! I can't wait to look back on all of this and say it was totally worth it. I'm sure we will feel that way. Hopefully sooner rather than later and yes we should stay in touch. I'm curious as to what they are going to find out for you.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
