day 1 of pre op liquid diet...failed already..

Recommended Posts

Today is day 1 of a 3week pre op liquid diet with Protein shakes, sugar free beverages and sugar free popsicles and ive failed already... i got through Breakfast shake and lunch=shake+chicken broth and then caved an hour later and ended up eating tequitos and a double chocolate muffin...How in the frig am i supposed to do a liquid diet for 3 weeks to shrink my liver? If it was slim fast plus regular juice i could do it...but I hate hate hate(gag) my Protein Shake powder..it tastes like koolaid thats chalky thats been overly sweetned...think Syntrax Protein juice in strawberry kiwi..it is sooo disgustingly sweet...i hate it and i have a large tubb of it!

How do you survive this? How does anyone? I feel so "empty" in my stomach all day...and how do you survive when you have a husband and child that eats anything in front of you and buys junkfood?

Heather don't knock yourself down. Start over tomorrow and make sure you follow threw. The end results will be your reward. I actually purchased Premier Protein in chocolate. Today I tried it for lunch and I really was full. For me it was really good. I got it at Walmart.< /p>

Today is my last day of a 2 week liquid preop diet. Start over tomorrow. I know it is hard I have two kids myself. Last night hubs baked chicken and I wanted to shovel it in. I've been using the Bariatric Advantage vanilla shake. It's expensive but it doesn't make me gag and it met my surgeons requirements. Good Luck to you. You can do this!

Try mixing the Protein Shake with some Water to dilute it, or with flavored crystal light. Something to make it taste better. Also try to drink lots of water, it will help keep you full. The pre-op liquid diet is the toughest part I think. It was so hard. Much harder than after the surgery. The cravings are insane! I cheated a few times the first few days too. I just couldn't take it. But I tried to stick to high Protein, Peanut Butter, deli turkey, chicken breast. Things that would fill me up, but not loaded with sugar. If you can get thru the first 4 days, its much easier after that. Hang in there, you can do it!

try the Premier shakes. I think the vanilla has an after taste of ice cream. And who doesn't want ice cream!!! My uncle who is an advid runner said the Sams Club brand is even creamier. But I like the Premier Shakes. I use one for Breakfast and lunch. Drink crystal light in between. Then dinner is a little tougher. But try to do lean meat and LOTS AND LOTS of salad.< /p>

I really like the premier shakes as well. You can even try freezing it a lil bit. I did that with the chocolate - yummy.

I'm on day 6 of a two week liquid diet. I know exactly how you feel. I have not ate a single thing in six days and I can't believe it!! I think in this stage its mind over matter. I keep reminding myself how much I want this surgery. How much I need to change my life and its working. Still on track after six days. Good luck tomorrow, start from scratch. Don't make any excuses for yourself tomorrow. Our minds have a very powerful way of rationalizing things. Even if you have it in your hand you don't have to eat it and if you put it in your mouth spit it out. Lol. Lots of Water and try to get the Protein in somehow. Lots of luck to you!!!

I also use Syntrax and to make it a little more tolerable I mix it with equal parts Water and sugar free juice or crystal light (one that compliments the flavor). Also put it on ice which makes it a thousand times better. You can do this. It is hard, but it is going to be amazing!

Hey girl! I had the same pre-op diet, only mine was 7 days. I failed on the first day, the second day, and the third day of my pre-op diet. On my Day 3 failure, I ate a pastry crisp. Then another. Then another. Then another. Then a PB&J with milk. Truly thought about cancelling my surgery because I felt so pathetic. I've posted on here ad nauseum about my struggle. Bottom line: On day 4, I stuck with it. I was MISERABLE. On day 5, I stuck with it and I was miserable again and foggy and cranky and headachy and hungry. On day 6 (today), I've stuck with it and I feel great! I swear I think it is getting detoxed from carbs. Before my pre-op, I was eating sugar like a maniac. Literally. Til I was in a food coma from sugar. The detox was HELL. But now that I'm a few days from my last sugar/carb, I don't have the cravings. I'm still hungry, but the intense cravings are completely gone.

I know it sucks that you have a lot longer on the pre-op than I do, but I can promise you that it will get easier if you can just suck it up and get a day or two under your belt.

A couple of things that helped me: I promised myself that before I broke the diet, I would (1) post a cry for help on here; (2) drink something and wait 30 minutes for responses; and (3) write down 3 reasons I decided to have the surgery. That helped.

HANG IN THERE - you're experience is similar to many of us and, like the rest of us, you'll make it through!

P.S. I refuse to believe that my struggle with the pre-op makes me less likely to succeed post-op. I may be wrong and, if I am, I will come back on here and be honest about it.

P.P.S. I don't like the Premier shakes or the Muscle Milk ones. I really like the vanilla Lean shakes from GNC. Also, you might try Isopure (also sold by the bottle at GNC so you can try one).

Good luck and let us know how you do going forward! There is NO SHAME in struggling! The only shame is in giving up. And it does NOT sound like you are giving up!

-Angela

I start my liquid diet tomorrow which consists of four protien shakes per day (400 calories). I am allowed to have sugar free beverages and coffee or tea. I am feeling very anxious about this, as I have never attempted anything like this before. I honestly don't know if I can do it, but I am GOING TO DO IT. I am doing this for myself because I am sick of watching life go by from the sidelines. I am ready to get in there and participate! I am just reminding myself that this too shall pass.

So obviously everyone is different, but I think that we are all de-toxing from sugar, carbs, caffeine, fat, and excessive calories during the pre-op. The problem with falling off the plan is that you will have to go through the crappy first few days again and again if you keep ingesting the junk. That to me was a good motivator and a reason to stay on it.

Absolutely everyone will likely tell you -a) it sucks at first B) it seems impossible c) if you can make it through 3-4 days, you feel GREAT afterwards and d) it prepares you for post-op which trust me is a lot harder.

So just try again, you'll get there :)

I'm on day 7 of my pre-op diet. I love the Lean shakes from GNC. Right now they are having a buy one and get one free deal. I bought 2 cases each of chocolate and vanilla bean. It comes out to about $1.50 each. I bought some coffee extract from Walmart (McCormick brand) and mix it the vanilla and it tastes like a Starbucks coffee drink. I know it's hard. I've had to stop sugar, carbs, caffeine, smoking and it was especially tough. However, today I woke up with energy and I was feeling great! Hang in there. The rewards will be tremendous!

Hang in there girly! Keep your eye on the prize and try to stay busy. I start my liquids soon too (we are both 9/11 sleevers!) so you'll have to remind me of the same thing!

Not sure what your guidelines are, but I basically harassed my surgeon until he told me what guidelines to stick to. The sheet he gave listed 5 powders I could choose from, sf popsicles, broth, bullion, Jello, and something else. I went through it all with hi, told him that I needed more variety and left with the following mod to my 2 week liquid diet.

ANY Protein shakes/protein waters, liquids, etc as long as I stick to this each day:

65-80g Protein

700-900 calories

50g or less carbs

I think this will be easier and ill have more choices. I also went to Nashuanutrition.com and

Ordered 30 flavors of Protein powder (sample pks are $2 each).

Good luck!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
