Sleeve after bypass

Recommended Posts

Does anybody know if it is possible to get sleeved after having bypass surgery and regaining you weight back? I have heard of bypass after being sleeved but never the other way

I read that Carnie Wilson got the Lapband after she had gastric bypass and regained all her weight.

I'm not sure how possible that would be. Isn't that part of the stomach cut away?

Here are the options for gastric bypass revisions...

http://www.bariatric-surgery-source.com/gastric-bypass-revision.html

Keke, are you sure your friend didn't have the duodenal switch? Doing a gastric sleeve is one component of that procedure. It doesn't make sense to go from a restrictive + malabsorptive procedure (gastric bypass) to only a restrictive procedure (gastric sleeve) if the former failed.

Thank you everyone for replying. I was actually just wondering if the sleeve would be an option for my sister. She had a procedure back in 96, and has since gained all of her weight back. She hasn't even mentioned thinking about having a 2nd surgery, I just was wondering if it were possible.

Even if it were possible, which is unlikely, why bother. She's done the most drastic and can't stick to it.....so nothing is going to work.

That's pretty harsh and I disagree. OP stated that the original procedure was in 96. That's a heck of a lot of time that's passed, and let's face it: life situations change and people change. Plus, that long ago, education, aftercare, recommendations to address emotional issues that contribute, and nutrition guidance weren't what they are now. Lastly, assuming there wasn't a medical reason contributing to regain, we can learn from our mistakes.

Harsh, not really. The fact is, I'm getting sleeved because I can't stick to it either. I'm hoping the deterrents and benefits of the sleeve will help me to keep it under control post op and then after losing the weight, help me get a new start by changing my eating habits and adjusting permanently to the change. I'm hoping the memory and risks of what I went thru and the loss of 85% of one of my internal organs to get the weight off, will remind me every day. If it doesn't, I will have no one to blame but myself. Not harsh, just reality.

It's very common for someone to regain after a weight loss procedure. She said it was much harder to keep down and digest healthy foods like Proteins and vegetables. I have read that a lot. People eat what doesn't make them throw up. Regardless, I thought this forum was about supporting each other. It's easy for people to think they know everything when they haven't even had surgery yet. Good luck to you

Wow, dude, seriously? Telling someone they can't possibly succeed, so why bother isn't harsh? I am really glad that the OPs struggling sister isn't the one who posted and had to read that. I'm sure she feels discouraged enough without having to see this kind of unsupportive and discouraging comment.

I think that we all have similar hopes to what you express, but your statement indicates that it's as simple as willpower. If that wasn't true before surgery, what would make it true after? It's way more complicated than simply calories in vs. calories out and is influenced by who knows how many different factors, only some of which we have good control over, or even realize exist. Lots of people regain after surgery and telling them it's too late, they've had their chance, isn't fair and doesn't help them turn things around and succeed. It's never too late to change your life.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
