I've only lost 15 pounds but me shoes are already big. Can that be possible that soon after surgery. I know my feet are going to get smaller but soo soon?? Maybe I'm going to loose weight starting in my feet and then working up. Who knows :-)

I asked my foot doctor if my shoe size would change after losing weight & he said no. I was bummed to hear that but now you're both saying you're shoes are too big! That's awesome news! Maybe he doesn't know everything afterall! Haha!

After you have lost over 100 lbs you will have usually lost one to one and a half sizes.

This is such an interesting topic to me as it is one of those things that so many people experience but there don't seem to be documented studies that back it up...most of what I've seen attributes the "phenomenon" to less pressure on the arches that excess weight brings, which caused the feet to "spread" more than otherwise would have happened. I am bummed because I was thinking my feet would actually shrink, but since I have had flat feet my entire life, I guess I'm not a likely candidate

Out of curiosity, are your feet now smaller than they've ever been as an adult, or had you been this size at some point previously?

I'm 10 weeks after my sleeve and the first place I noticed loss was my feet. Shoes that fitted pre surgery were loose and I went and bought new shoes and didn't have to buy a wide fitting. My feet measure half a size smaller than they used to as well. Not sure if its the fact that I'm not carrying the 40lbs I've lost and therefore less pressure on my feet or if they've truly lost weight.

I'm 8 weeks out and my feet are shrinking too! I'm in between sizes right now (which is frustrating lol), and I'm trying to figure out how does this happen? I get your foot spreading and the arch falling, etc...but how do feet actually shorten in length? Does anyone know?

A friend of mine got sleeved 1 year ago, lost 130 pounds and 1.5 in shoe size. I understand the width part but not the actually size part part.

I think they "shrink" in length because the arches revert back to their normal height ...which pulls the foot up in the middle...think of a piece of kleenex that you pick up from middle...sides pull in leaving less distance from front to rear.

This is the smallest my feet have been as an adult. I never imagined my feet would shrink too.

I never thought about the arches because I have always had incredibly flat feet. I did think less weight on them could be good but if I get some arch too that would be great. For several years now I have not been able to wear anything but Birkenstocks without pain.

On the opposite end my DIL told me her bones were still growing (at 26?) because her shoes size had gone up a full size. She was not happy when I said it was because she had gained weight. I had never even mentioned that she was easily twice as big as she was a couple years ago if not more. She doesn't believe me that this is even possible.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
