When will it stop hurting??

Recommended Posts

I had my banding on Friday (1/5). I have been feeling progressivley better, however, I keep getting a jabbing burning pain on my right side. Just under the largest incision. It seems to only happen when I stand up. I am fine sitting or laying, but when I try to stand for longer than a few minutes, it becomes excuciating. I called my Dr. and was told this is normal, but I haven't seen it mentioned here, and am wondering how long it lasted for other people. My medication takes the edge off but I am literally in tears by the end of a shower. This doesn't bode well for going back to work on Saturday. I keep hoping I will wake up and it will be all better. Sorry that I am whining, I just never dreamed it would hurt more than my c sections. Any advice would be wonderful! Thanks

Hey, we have the same band date!!! I actually have no port pain. The port is right under the big incision. But, I have had a Tummy Tuck. The sharp pain at least with me and my tummy tuck, was a nerve that had been cut. It takes time to heal. It is no big deal. Nerves are just all over the body and easy to nick. It just takes time.

I had pain at the port site too and my doctor said it was just my muscle and body trying to reject the port and it just took a few days for my body to accept it. Hang in there, the pain will go away.

The biggest incision is where they put the Port in. They stitch it down to your abdomen - which is the pain you are feeling. When you stand, your stomach muscles work with your back muscles to keep you upright.

But, right now, those stitches around the port are still healing - so you will feel pulling or pain every time you use your abdominal muscles.

that is why you have to wait for a few weeks to go back to any kind of exercise routine. It will get better, soon.

Hugs and Happy Healing!

I am echoing what the others have said, but it really just takes time for the soreness/pain to go away. I remember feeling miserable on the 2nd and 3rd day, to the point of wondering what the hell I had done to myself,,,and was back at work on day 7. I still didnt feel 100%, but felt so much better in comparison. Take whatever they gave you for pain, or some liquid Tylenol, and get as much rest as possible and let your body heal. Sorry you are actually in pain over this.

I have been banded for a week which has been rather rough. I have had extreme gas pains thru my back and and now throwing up this foam every time I drink something. Am only sipping, that is all I can possibly do. Also I feel like most of meds I am taking come right back up. Dr.did not fill band at all, so can it be too tight? Back pains have been easing off but still can't seem to keep anything down for long. Does anyone have any advise?????? I am no where near taking in required oz of fluids much less Protein. The good news is 12 lbs lost in 6 days but how long can I go on like this. Amazingly my energy level is good at the moment.

Thank you all so much for your support. I am starting to feel a little better today. I have stopped taking the heavy duty meds and am on liquid Extra Strength Tylenol now. Mostly it is just the anoying jabing and pulling under the large incision. Now that I know what it is I feel better though. I called out for work over the weekend and will start back with a half shift on Tuesday. Turns out my boss was expecting to have me out for longer than I had planned and had some people who agreed to cover my shift for the weekend if needed. She is so great!

Thanks again for your help and support.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
