DO NOT drink milk or take your calcium supplement with your iron supplement!

Recommended Posts

Check this out folks! Something we should all keep in mind.

Iron Absorption

Goat's and cow's milk can affect the absorption of iron; you should never drink either at the same time you take an iron supplement, because both of these types of milk are high in Calcium, which limits iron absorption. According to a fact sheet from the University of California-Davis, some studies have found calcium supplements and dairy products to limit the amount of iron absorbed from a meal. Because of this risk, never take an iron supplement with milk.

I was told to take mine before going to bed at night to avoid this problem.

I agree, that's a good idea but I am taking 2 multi-vitamins a day so I need to fit the first one in somewhere the day when I am not touching milk or Calcium.< /p>

Do you take a separate Iron supplement? Perhaps I can do that and it won't matter when I take the multi's.

I purposely purchased a multi that did not contain Iron so that I didn't have to worry about this exact issue.. I take my mulit Vitamins and calcium supplements throughout the day then just before bed I take my iron.. it's SOOOOO much easier to be compliant this way

I was told to take the Iron in the morning (I'm sure bedtime would work too) and wait at least 2 1/2 to take my first Calcium. I was also told (I'm taking 3 calcium a day) that I should wait at least 2 1/2 hours before taking another calcium, for absorption reasons.

What form of Iron is it? Some tummies sleeved or not are very sensitive to Iron supplements. I take ferochel chelated iron and it has been great for me. It is in capsule form but it's smaller than the acid reducer capsule so it's easy to swallow.

Gaia brand just released their new liquid Iron. I doubted the clerk who said it tastes good until I tasted it. Kinda like berry + raisin flavored liquid. I was pleasantly pleased.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
