Surgery gone wrong...lost 7 units/pints of blood.

Request your records from the hospital. Specifically the surgery report. And yes speak to a lawyer, preferably a reputable one and not a ambulance chaser. A good lawyer will review your case, and tell you if you have a case or not. Make a complaint to the hospital, if for no other reason to make them accountable for there lack of considerate care post op and to make sure they have guidelines in place to prevent this from happening again. You could have died. Would have if your husband had not stood up for you. If they had sent you home like they were planning you would have died. This is serious and they should be made accountable.

so a lawyers opinion would be less biased? really?

i have seen people waste years of their lives on a case that everyone knew would lose or get settled for a piddly amount ( of which the lawyer would get the biggest cut).

It's about accountability and making sure it doesn't happen to anyone else.

Did you have blood work done before surgery? I know I was very anemic with a hgb of 9. Any chance you were low blood before and lost more during surgery?

I'm not a doctor or a lawyer, but I'm sick of medical malpractice lawsuits. The result is higher health care! You our doctors explain the risks, ask us to sign papers acknowledging the risks, then something goes wrong and we have to sue for millions. The doctor's goal was to help us.

You drive on the highway, get hit by a drunk driver and he has no insurance and you have serious injuries and you're lucky if he gets a slap on the wrist and your insurance pays your bills and that's the end of it. Been there done that!

I say if the physician did something criminal, he/she should be punished by the law. End of story, just like the drunk driver. Why should "deeper pockets" result in a better financial outcome to a serious injury? I've had situations where I could have sued a physician for a bad outcome. But my surgeon was not attempting to harm me, did not act in a reckless way. Still I probably could have gotten some big bucks for the bad result... but the drunk driver did act in a reckless way... had priors and didn't care about my injuries... but there was no money to be had. If there was justice he would have become my slave for 40 years to make up for it. LOL

I agree with your suggestion. There is an accounting that needs to take place if anything to help other being serviced at that hospital.

Thank God you are okay!! I cannot believe they did not get labs after surgery. My surgeon, who is phenomenal, had my lab work done often. She even called in every night around 1am to check on me. I just don't understand why the surgeon wouldn't have made sure all necessary tests were done.

Anyhow, the main thin is your okay. I just wish the nurses would have listened to your husband sooner.

I'm glad you're okay and that you're recovering. I disagree with the "file a lawsuit" mentality.

More would be served if you attempted to compel your surgeon and the team to take additional steps going forward to ensure this never happens again. Be an advocate for change and progress.

Be apart of the solution.

Thank you all for your concern. I know that I could have died and that's very scary but thank the god lord he allowed me to have another day. I know I could probably sue but what would that really change, it was an accident. I don't think he intentionally meant to harm me. I am not a vengeful person and I requested the surgery with all the risk. I am going to see him this week to discuss what happened and where the blood went and came from, I was a bit to loopy in the hospital to have a direct conversation. I did have blood work completed prior to surgery. I will also discuss with him the nurses who appeared to be just worried about getting a discharge and ask him that he amend his practice of doing post-op labs. I did have my o2 sat, and Bp check periodically through the night but I only bottomed out saturation when I was sat and giving pain meds. I really appreciate everyone's concern and by no means am I trying to scare anyone into not having surgery. Like they say its 1 in 1000 odds and well someone has to be that 1 :-) just thank The Lord he was watching over me!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
