A whole lot of Protein!

Recommended Posts

So I had my pre op meeting today, did the bod pod! That was pretty cool.. Talked to my NUT and she said that I need to have 110 grams of Protein a day... Having been looking around on here, that seems like ALOT!! I will, of course, do it to my best ability but just seems crazy high.

I also LOVE that i know how much fat and how much muscle/bone mass I have. It makes me have a better idea of what I want to lose. My surgeon told me 60-80 lbs.... I weigh 309 and am 5'11.. I was like um no I need to lose a lot more than that. He said well you can lose what you want, you get out what you put in... I just thought that was a strange response... :)

Any one else have to have that much protein?? OH and i start my liquid diet tomorrow for 10 days.. I didn't get told to do a clear liquid diet the day before, should I call and ask about that, or just do what they said???

Thanks

Cindy

Your surgeon has one opinion on how much you should lose and you have your own, but in this case you're the one in control.

CALL AND ASK ABOUT THE liquid diet THE DAY BEFORE. I AM PRETTY SURE IT MUST BE DONE. GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR JOURNEY. :D

My Protein range per NUT is 60-90g/day but I shoot for 90 minimum and exceed that on many days. During my pre-op phase I was hitting 100+ on most days. It does wonders for my fingernails and hair:) Good luck!

I didn't have Clear Liquids prior to my surgery, just nothing (any type of liquid including water) after midnight the day before surgery. It is always best to double check though. I think a lot surgeons have different opinions on this. Good luck.

I was told for stage five and beyond 60-80g protein...but I'm 5'1", perhaps being tall, your body will require more[?] BUT if you are unsure, you should ask your NUT or DR....best wishes!

I had to do Protein Shakes a week before surgery but never clear liquid until after. I was told 60-80 Protein but I am also tall (5'10") and have read in the past that the taller you are the more you need. I am struggling to get the protein in. Good luck

Every surgeon is different I had to do 3 days of clear liquids before surgery also Protein is based on the person every one is different ... I was told pre op to shoot for 80-90mg I had to go on a diet prior .. Everyone is different so there needs are different ... Now that I'm post op the surgeon gave me 64/64 ... I'm 1 week post op and in up to 40-48 0z of fluids and about 60-70 of protein it's gradual u work ur way up ;)

I'm supposed to be getting at least 65 gm of Protein a day, but I usually hit around 80. My doc considers "success" a weight loss of 60% of excess weight. I want to be closer to 100%, and it's really up to me and my body. I was on shakes for 2 weeks prior to surgery, and never on clear liquids. Each doc is different.

Thank you. He wasn't very thorough yesterday. K don't know if he was in a hurry or what... I feel much better now but I will call on the clear liquid thing and when I should stop eating/drinking.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
