When did your "honeymoon phase" end?

Recommended Posts

I know that the further out from surgery we get, the slower/harder it is to lose weight...just wondering from those countless "success stories" out there when you noticed a marked change...6 mos? 12 mos?

Another way to state it is "I've lost xx pounds in xx months. XX of which was lost in the first xx months. :-)

My honeymoon phase ended when I reached my goal. However, I am still in love and hope to spend many happy years with me. B)

I'm not sure I believe in the Honeymoon phase. It is what you make it and it's about how bad you want to get to goal. I actually lost more weight after the 6 month mark than I did before it when I really sat down and focused on clean eating. Now I'm trying to figure out maintenance and still am finding I'm losing about 2 lbs a week.

I like this. I know it is different for each person, but I am hoping this is what I will be able to say when looking back. I'm nearing the 3-mo mark and am pleased so far, but still such a long way to go!

I'm mystified by the honeymoon period term. Never experienced it.

I myself never lost weight easily. I'm at the 5 month mark and lost about 33lbs. (I lost 48lbs before the surgery) And I've really had to work at those 33lbs just as hard as the 48lbs. Not complaining. Overall I am happy with my weight loss have no regrets over the surgery. My dietitian says I am on the right path. I just keep marching forward.

I wonder why we are slow slow sloooooooow losers? It can't all be because of minimal exercise, surely. How different does those 33 post surgery lbs lost make you feel in your clothes?

There is no "honeymoon phase". During the first month or two you're only sipping Soup broth and getting very little calories in, so naturally you'll drop weight faster.

The real challenge comes when you begin sucking down regular food. If you start eating pizza and crap food again, then yeah you'll gain it all back. You must change your diet, your outlook on food to achieve your goals.

My quick easy losing phase ended about two months ago, which was about 10 months post-op. I am still losing but it has slowed down a lot. Over the past 2-3 months I have lost about 7 pounds. I still have to get down quite a bit more, so I gotta kick up the exercise since it's not coming as easily. But I am down 137 pounds in those 10 months so it's not a big deal that it's slowed down a bit =)

I was sleeved 9/14/2012, went from 232 to 154, and the only time I stopped losing was very recently when my Water aerobics class (at the city pool) let out for the summer. I was doing a musical in community theater at the time, with lots of singing and dancing, and running around behind stage. After I finished that, bam...no more weight loss. I even gained a couple of pounds back...yikes. So, I just went and joined the Y today, because there's no way I can take a hiatus from activity for the entire summer like that. I can't walk outside when it's 105...just can't do it. Weight loss is slower now, but it's still happening.

I've never thought about, considered, or worried about this "honeymoon phase" people talk about! I don't care how slow or fast I'm losing. I'm not gaining and that's all I care about! Every single day I'm conscious about what I eat and I'm working on getting physically fit. Sleeved life is good!

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
