ME!!!! OK, I had an umbilical hernia AND a hiatal hernia repaired when I had my sleeve done. Mine was relatively small compared to stuff I had seen on the internet. But I still wanted to have it repaired.

When I had the surgery my sleeve didn't bother me at all, pain wise. On the other hand, I had intense pain with the umbilical hernia repair. That surgery basically made using the lower abs painful. Getting in and out of bed hurt like all heck! I could raise my feet to get into the hospital bed, on and off the couch, in and outta my reclining chair. Laying back in bed hurt because you use those muscles also. It also means that sitting back in a chair hurt, laying back in bed.... Oh and sitting up in bed, on the couch etc. I had my surgery 6/7/13 and up till this last week or so I was still very careful getting outta the car because when I sat crouched over for any length of time I felt like I was going to tear something if I moved to quickly. It was fine after I straightened out slowly. Oh, and don't ya dare sneeze or cough! OUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, you remember those silly commercials about the reclining chair that helped old people stand up because the chair had a lift to it? I soooooooo could have used one! I so got how it was useful! LOL!!!! <_<

For me, I hurt so bad that I had strained my neck pulling myself into bed. So when I got home I was on Tylenol3 every 2.5-3 hours for the stomach and neck pain..... So DON'T STRAIN YOUR NECK!!!!

But now, it is fixed and healed. Hopefully I'll never have a problem with it again. :D

Good luck!

I have one.... they did the surgery ard it...... left ti there.... in the future should I want a Tummy Tuck (insurance does not cover) I can go in to have the hernia repaired (insurance does cover) and while I am under for a covered procedure have the tummy tuck done at an affordable price....

I have a large one they did not repair. Said to wait as long as I can so that insurance will cover most of the cost of a Tummy Tuck when they repair hernia. The more weight I lose the more noticeable it is. I believe it is making me wear at least one size larger in pants. Very self conscious of it. I have lost 150 pounds and have about 70 to go. Ideally I should wait until I hit goal to do surgery. We will see if I can wait.

I never had a c sec, sooo I don't know what to tell ya there. I do know it was very hard and painful for ME. I was very glad I had my mom living with me.... It may not be as bad for you. Talk to your doc about what to do and about how much pain it may cause you.

I had an umbilical hernia repair last year - and it wasn't bad at all. Much less pain than from my c- section and gall bladder removal surgeries.

I have the same issue. They said they would try to fix my umbilical hernia at time of surgery. It's rather large.. 3 cenimeters and it did cause me intense pain earlier this year. Now, it's just annoying and keeping me from lifting weights.

I'm interested to hear that Namada was told to wait to wrap it in with a tummy tuck.. I might ask about this!

Good luck to you. I'm glad you didn't even realized you had it! That means it's not bugging you too much.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
