Belly Button incision - anyone else?

Recommended Posts

For my VSG, I had the usual 5 incisions, but one of them happened to be through my navel/belly button. I am 10 days post op and my navel doesn't hurt or itch or anything, but there seems to be some kind of "plug" in there that just looks scary... hard, green, fuzzy... at first I thought it was a gauze and when I tried to move it a little, it seemed attached to me!!! Truly a gag moment... I can't even look at it right now!

Anyone else have a belly button incision that can give me some tips/advice on how this part heals and what the heck the "thing" is in there???!!! My husband keeps telling me I'm going to be in the Alien movie! lol!

hmmm..... I too, had the belly button incision though I do not have anything like you described. I think you dhould definitely call your doctor. There was nothing "in" mine, however this is day 22 with my sleeve and it has been RAW (think..... for 2 1/2 weeks inside of there on the top part, it looked like the inside of your mouth and was NOT seeming to heal..... kinda scary to me) since the operation and sore..... It is JUST now (like yesterday/today) starting to feel better.

But the "green, fuzzy" thing sounds like you may want to get it checked out......

No, but I have an incision below my belly button that is large and vertical wasn't thrilled about it and because I don't see anyone else with it. It healed nicely though. I would Make an appointment ASAP to have it checked out by your physician. Called them because your situation needs to be checked out if its green and fuzzy.

I have a belly button incision and one side of it didn't seem to be healing as well as the other side or the other 3 incisions in my abdomen. I just learned that that part of the belly button incision has a stitch that should dissolve soon (the other side and all my other incisions were "glued" shut. It does look different than the rest but not really how you describe. Definitely worth checking out as others have suggested.

I had the one incision through my belly button and my surgeon used glue and after about a week the huge glob came out but I didn't see any fuss and the glue was mostly black from the dried up blood. I would definitely bring this up at my 2 week check up.

I have a horizontal incision under my belly button from VSG...and that is directly on my vertical scar from gallbladder surgery. So I have a cross under my belly button! It's really dorky.

Once I got the yucky gauze out, I could see that they actually did not go through the belly button, but rather made a very small incision just inside it, probably to hide the scar for me. They had packed it with a little gauze b/c it did not have a stitch. Oozed like it should to cleanse itself, but no one told me about the gauze so I didn't see it until the steri strips fell off after about a week and by then, the gauze was pretty gross. However, once I took the gauze away, everything was nicely healed underneath and a very tiny scab is on the incision. Did freak me out a bit, but all is well!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
