I am giving up on chicken.

Recommended Posts

I am almost 9 weeks out and I tried chicken for the third time tonight. Owwwwwwwww! I even cooked the chicken via crock pot to make sure the chicken was cooked to death and still hurt. I thought, for the first time, that I was going to throw the chicken up. Felt like bricks in my stomach. I can eat any other kind of meat, except chicken. That is so weird to me.

Has anyone else had this problem? Just curious to find out if I'm the only odd duck.

I wouldn't give up on chicken all together. Give it time. You are only 9 weeks out so chicken might not work for you right now. Try it every few weeks and see if it eventually gets better. I would guess that when you get closer to a year out and the swelling in your sleeve goes down that you will be able to eat chicken again. I can eat just about anything. Some things don't taste the same for me anymore and I just don't care for them but there hasn't been anything I truly can't eat.

I cant eat chicken or even ground beef unless it is swimming in something. The first time I tried some moist chicken I thought I was gonna DIE! (Try to hear that in a Rosanne Rosanna Danna voice!) No way am I brave enough to try any meat you have to cut with a knife. I'm really wondering when I can eat moist meat without sauce or gravy again.

It might be different for everyone. I do alright with chicken but not a whole lot of it. I can usually eat a few bites at a time then have to wait like 20 min. I still have problems with beef though especially hamburgers. I tried using slider patties cause there s small but still can only eat like half of it. seafood seems to have the least trouble. Maybe try a different style chicken or different brand or quality. we can have so little might as well go with best quality. On another note it might just be a while as i was told that some meats might take till after a year to be able to handle. Also try using hot liquids 30 min before to open up stomach pouch.

I had a hard time with meats at first. I did better with lunchmeats. I could only eat an ounce for a while, then as time has gone by (I'm more than two years out), I can eat 3 oz.s and some veggies and starch.

If you can't eat something now, give it a few weeks and try it again.

I'm almost 16 wks out & chicken is my enemy. My sister had RNY in 2010 & she still can't handle chicken either. I personally feel its because of how dense it is. I can have/tolerate small amounts of fish (~1oz) & shrimp, which is ok by me because I don't get that sleeve-full-of-concrete-someone-kill-me feeling, & it's loaded with Protein.< /p>

Good description of that feeling. I've been saying it feels like I swallowed a brick but yours is better.

this very interesting to me, cause i poached up some dark meat before surgery... made broth with it, so it was wayyyyyyyyy cooked soft. the way i would cook it for my kids when they were first eating solids... i had maybe 5 bites, well chewed. thought it was gonna kill me last night. needed two painkillers to deal. it was the worst. so, holding off on chix for a while here.... (whew glad i read this)

I am 9 weeks out. Sorry, I can eat just about any meat. I live on chicken (Boston Market makes really soft, moist chicken). Beef goes down well, although I haven't tried steak yet. I can even eat a bit of chili-cheeseburger.

I don't say this to brag -- I just don't want newbies to think that they can never eat chicken or beef again.

What I have problems with are fresh, steamed vegetables. They seem to activate my stomach acid, and leave me feeling like there is a hole in my tummy. I can eat well-cooked veggies, like in Soup or a stew. Just not the steamed (even well-steamed) ones. Anyone else have that problem?

Crockpot chicken can be very dry. Even before the sleeve I would make dark meat in the crockpot and cooked on low for 4 hrs. Max. -- and with

Iquid. When you try again, I would go with rotisserie or Boston Market.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
