What type of protein shakes are you drinking?

Muscle milk light.

My surgery is scheduled for 9/16 with Dr. Ramos Kelly in TJ. I am so excited. Of course I have the usual nerves, it is a major surgery, but I know this is the right decision for me. For those of you going to MX what kind of "food" are you taking with you? I am trying to just take a carry on so I can't bring liquids. I know they give you broth and SF popsicles but what do you do for protein. I have pre mixed protein shakes that I like but the powdered protein kind of scares me. :)

So, from what I am reading some of you have stated that you don't think you will have to be on a liquid diet for a period of time. I thought that being on the liquid diet was the standard. I have to be on liquids 7-10 days before and for two weeks after surgery. Pureed foods are next but only if I am approved to do so. I'm just gonna do what they tell me :) I don't want any problems.

09/23/10 my day!

Update: I had my last round of heart tests today and I have a clearance letter! I am so excited! Bring it on Sept. 10th!!! Thanks for the encouraging posts. Have a great weekend!!!

Just got approved yesterday for surgery on Sept 4 in St Louis. Very excited to begin this new journey but also kinda terrified. Keep asking myself if I've lost my mind and am really planning on having 85% of my stomach ripped out of me. Then I keep telling myself - this is probably the sanest thing I've done in quite some time. And that I spent 58 years abusing myself, I can learn to be kind to me for my remaining years (I hope it's not 58!!). Anticipation of what I shall be is winning out over the sheer terror.

Tijuana Sept. 9-14 and surgery is the 10th!!! Marriott Hotel and 2 day hospital stay....see y'all soon!

Hey there newcocoame! Those are my exact dates too! I get to TJ the 9th, have the surgery the 10th, and leave on the 14th. I will look for you :) If you want to find me on the 9th at the Marriott I'll probably be at the pool. ;)

Heyyyyyy! We have the same dates. 'See' ya there....too excited!

September 17, Ypsilanti,Dr. Poplowski. Good luck.

I'm really bummed :( I was scheduled for Sept. 9 but I'm self pay and had a last minute financing issue so had to move to Oct. 14. Good luck Sept. Sleevers, I look forward to hearing about your progress and seeing your skinny pics!

To tsan4u, my doctor doesn't require me to be on a liquid diet prior to surgery, but will need to be on a full liquid diet for 3 weeks after surgery. It is interesting to see all the difference between the doctor's instructions. Good luck with your surgery!!!! Mine is on September 19th.

My doctor requires my pre-op diet of 2 weeks to be two protein shakes (that were provided) a day and one meal of lean protein of 4 oz with green veggies. If I get hungry I can have sf jello, sf Popsicle, and broth.

And I am only required to lose 5 lbs before surgery. I will be on clear liquids for the first 3 days of post-op and move onto straight liquids for 3 week afterwards. Then purée for 2 weeks and day 36 and beyond will be soft solid foods.

Seems pretty simple now but, ill just have to see.
