I've been back on the 5:2 bandwagon for a couple of weeks and have managed to rein in the really bad junk I was consuming; hence, weight gain. Have lost back down some of the weight. Need another 5-8 pounds to be where I want to STAY. (Yeah, here I again! ????).

Haven't been on BP much because the new app freezes up everytime I try to read posts on any thread. Lots of people having the issue so hopefully, there is. "Fix" soon.

Anyway, let's hit it, Girls! Florinda, "Fall- new season - fresh start!"

Hi all -- still reading, not saying much. Still a total mess, this thread is my very thin lifeline. None of my clothes fit. I've not been in such a bad place in a LONG time. So I will just keep hanging on to the thin line and hoping I can get it together again. :-(

Hang in! You can. I know we all are struggling in some way (well, most). Glad you are part of 5:2 and you've provided support for many of us in the past. Sending you hugs!!

Challenge. I joined the Halloween Challenge so let's do a 5:2 Halloween Challenge ourselves!

1. Commit to 5:2 week. REAL fast days

2. Set a Reasonable goal you want to reach/achieve. Even if just to get back on track.

3. Weigh in each week. Other group does Friday. So whatever y'all decide.

4. Be connected and help motivate each other in the next month toward healthy eating and lifestyle.

Back much better but have not restarted exercise yet! Need to restart 5:2 and even more need you ladies encouragement.

It has been very quiet here but I have been pleased to have seen some members who have not been around for a while.

The new app I feel is quite poor and the whole site is quite quiet. I more often use my ipad than my laptop as that is my new set up but as this 'secret forum ' just shows up on participated I'm not too sure how secret it is is.

Glad to hear from Sheila, I thought it was work that was keeping her away.

OK ladies let's have a big push on 5:2 between now and Christmas, I certainly need it.

We need to log in more often to keep ourselves accountable. I really need you guys to get myself on the straight and narrow.

Um, IS this private now? It is showing under participated as Cathy said.

Do we need to send a message to Alex? He assured me in the past that it was private.I wasn't aware that there was a new ap and people are having issues.

I need to commit to exercise because I am a nervous wreck without it. I can't take those SSRI's for depression and anxiety but I really need to . When I do cardio every day, my anxiety is better controlled. For the first few hours in the morning, I feel so nervous and anxious, it's very upsetting.

Maybe they have come out with something new since i last tried. I know a lot of those medications cause weight gain, as well. Sheesh, why does life have to be so complicated?

When you think about it, everyone in our group is stressed out. Florinda has the state bothering her, Dee is really down, Sheryl is out of sorts, Sheila is trying to get used to being a mom and working full time, I am a nervous wreck for no reason at all that I know of, etc. What has being overweight most of our lives done to us all mentally?

Oh never mind me I think I am having an extended midlife crisis..ha. I am so motivated to make the lexapro work because the tiny dose controls my anxiety. I dont feel down or blue if my anxiety is in control.

So I had a wild weekend. Friday I did company sponsored "day of caring" for United way. 50 of us did habitat restoration which meant digging out invasive plants with a pick or shovel. It was brutally hard work but felt so good. We accomplished so much. One of the volunteer coordinators was so hot and awesome but given the setting...it wasn't really appropriate to ask him if he was single! My arms and shoulders were sore from all that shoveling.

Saturday morning I went riding..fun as always. Sat afternoon I did another wine walk with 3 girlfriends..super fun. My niece and her hubby and somepals did it too. My oldest son and his roommates showed up to look at antiques and had appetizers with us. Awkward moment...the boyfriend of an acquaintance got really drunk and was hitting on me. I know he was loaded and that is why but I worry she overheard it. ..sigh. I did reflect that in the last week 2 guys have hit on me, and the volunteer coordinator guy definitely talked to me...might or might not have been flirting. And he was sober even. I didn't feel flattered but I had one of those "wait a minute, Celebrate our hotness" moments. Pat on back...we all need to do that More.

My son had a school buddy over Sat night - I loved it.

Today, Sunday I did a hike with Theo. It was brutally hard for us oldsters but we loved the scenery and had a nice day. He took me out to dinner after. It was nice..and where I am at with him is just backing off and seeing him sometimes but I am going to date others if I ever find the time.

I started the day with my young horse double barrel kicking me. Oddly the impact site is okay as I was nearly out of range but I was tossed like a lawn dart. My neck and shoulders hurt from the impact. I wished I could have seen it filmed because I really felt airborne! Yes, I did the brutal hike after that.

Loved all the updates!

I am not quite ready to restart 5:2 as I have a weird and tough week at work ahead. In a few weeks I am IN. I have been drinking way too much wine....been having a fun summer in spite of my troubles (bettys death and the nightmare that went with it)

You know girls, I realized something! We could all chat in the chat room. We could pick a time, a day, and however many of us could chat at that time, click on chat below. There doesn't ever seem to be anyone using it.

I used to chat all the time, when it was verticalsleevetalk. I chatted every night when the web site first started after band talk.

Hey swizz... might not be my biz.. but curious if the "total mess" is life or just weight related? Thinking of you...keep hanging in there!

Denise I used to cardiovascular away my anxiety too. But in hindsight it only partially worked. The who med situation sucks but not as bad as anxiety did!

Florinda glad you are enjoying your new digs. Are you outdoorsy oriented? Ski? The gray arrives sometime in Oct or Nov and can be a downer so now is the time to be lining up how to make the most of our cloudy but usually mild winters. It is a killer adjustment for some and others love it (no snow to shovel).

Georgia, seems like we all did good on 5:2 last summer. How far are you from your goal?

M2g...thrilled for your career success. Carve out time for you. I didn't do that well as a career mom and it contributed to my obesity.

So, recap. I hit goal of 158 in Feb 2013. Regained 5 last summer and started 5:2 at 163. Got down to 150 in time for plastics. Swelling etc didn't see 150 again until maybe Jan 2014. Accidentally lost 10# this spring and got to 140. This morning 146.5..definitely bouncing up.

My 5:2 goal is to get down to 140 again. If i quit drinking wine it would probably happen....

Okay, looking at the calendar, I propose that we do a "calling all 5:2bies" reboot that begins on the 22nd of September, which is next Monday. In case anybody needs a refresher on the outline of 5:2ing, back to the beginning....

Also, I found this ...

Also, has anyone had issues with acid making a comeback? For four years I have been a pill-a-day (Prevacid) and suddenly this week, a few days ago, I have had such intense acid pain that I am taking 2 pills a day, one morning, one night. The acid is so intense it even gave me a blister on the roof of my mouth. Anyone had an issue similar?

No Florinda, but I read a study that indicates 3-6 years post op... big increase in some people's acid issues.

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
