I am 2 weeks out and need to start on Vitamins. What are your recommendations on vitamins to take? Since I started the journey of my surgery the only person who has stayed the same is my surgeon and he doesn't deal with vitamins. My nutritionist as well as my primary care doctor have both changed and I don't know either of them so I want to make a good impression and be on vitamins when I go see either of them :) TIA!!

I've tried so many different Vitamins in my 4 weeks since being sleeved. The ones I was taking preop I couldn't handle postop. Bought a Gummy Multivitamin and C and those I can tolerate. Make sure you also take Vitamin D. You should check with your primary for Iron tho.

My surgeon was happy with Flintstones Complete- 2 a day, taken at different times of the day. Calcium twice a day. And I just started taking Vitamin B12 per his recommendation as well.

I started on the Bariatric Advantage multi chewables. They have a terrible taste and consistency!!!. I am expecting a delivery of a new product by Celebrate. It's a chewable multi like toffee. My nutritionist aid that because we are not eating our full requirements of Vitamins and minerals taking a supplement is essential. They also have Biotin which helps with Hair loss. I also take calcium citrate chewys, sublingual B12 and chewable Iron ( all by Bariatric Advantage ). I can only go by what I have been told. heck on the website of ant Bariatric center of excellence and see what the recommendations are. such as The mayo Clinic, Loma Linda University Medical Center. Google Bariatric Centers of Excellence. doing your research is the best thing you can do. also, find a new PCP immediately so tey can check your blood levels if your surgeon will not.

I take 1 chewable multi-Vitamin Celebrate brand once a day. Did 2 a day during the pre-op diet.

After surgery they said 2 Flinstones chewables can replace the 1 Celebrate multi,

Also 1 B-12 sublingual per day, Celebrate brand also.

My Dr does not start Calcium until 3 months out.

Took Iron during pre-op but don't take it right now.

Can't remember if he adds it back in a 3 months or not but did read it's best not to take Calcium & Iron at the same time.

I also take an antacid ( nexium which I open and sprinkle on pudding since I can't swallow the capsule whole ) daily. You can try over the counter omeprazole generic . My Doctor feels strongly about not having any acid reflux to agitate the tummy.

For a Multivitamin I take Bariatric Advantage capsules. The dosage on the bottle says to take six of these small capsules a day, but they are made for RNY patients so I only take four since I'm a sleeve patient and we don't have malabsorption. I buy the 540 count bottle from Amazon.com for 43.00 and it lasts four months with the four capsule a day dosage

For Calcium I take calcium+d3 "miniatures" from Puritain's pride item #33195 the bottle has 200 tablets and each tablet has 200 mg of calcium.. I take six per day divided into three doses. (these can be taken with the Bariatric Advantage Multi since it does not have Iron... if your multivitamin has Iron then you should not take it with calcium) When puritain's pride has the buy one get two free sale, the Calcium works out to costing around $5.00 a month for a six tablet a day dose.. This is the same stuff as citrical which costs three times as much. WARNING.. these are the Miniature version of the pill but they're not really that small.... they're just small compared to the REGULAR size which are absolute horse pills.. If you are not confident in your pill swallowing abilities.. then I'd look for a chewable wafer instead.. Bariatric advantage make chewable wafers which are much cheaper than their calcium candy chews.

I took a b-12 sublingual 3x a week but my PCP told me I can stop that

I take chelated iron: Ferrochel. It is very easy for the body to absorb. I do not take it every day. Only on days when I haven't had a lot of iron from my foods.

What I'm doing must be working.. All of my Vitamin levels came back absolutely perfect at my 3 month visit except my B-12 which was too high.

Lunch: Centrum Kids Vitamin

Dinner: Bariatric Support Calcium wafers 1/2 tablet

Snack: Bariatric Support Calcium Wafter 1/2 tablet

I have to use a huge 4 pill/7 day a week pill box holder to keep it straight.

My suggestion is to contact the person who is supposed to coordinate this for your care. I know they will appreciate that you want to be a compliant patient, but they will appreciate even more that you consulted them early. No two people have the same exact plan, and no one person has the exact same needs throughout.

Many Vitamins are fat soluable, and that means they can build up in your system and actually do more harm than good. The Water soluable ones are less of an issue, you just pee out the excess. In my particular case, I was told to take flintstone chewables at first, and nothing else. They gradually added other things, such as Vitamin D, B12, and at six weeks I was told to take 1500 mg Calcium a day. I had some labs done a couple of weeks ago, and my calcium was super high! I also have low Iron, so I take that, but that could be dangerous to take it if you don't need it. So my advice is don't just start taking Vitamins without some baseline labs. Good luck!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
