I too am getting sleeved on July 25th. I have my last appointment with my doctor before the surgery. I had my UGI done yesterday and was told that i have a hernia as well. I will find out tonite what that will entail. I'm starting to get a bit nervous, but I am going to my support group tonite so hopefully that will calm the nerves.

Is anyone else nervous? Does everyone have their supplies ready? Any advise would be appreciated. Good luck to all of us.

Hi all! I had mine done the 25th with Dr. Heider in Mooresville, NC. I'm still dealing with the gas discomfort, but overall, I'm hanging in. How is everyone else?

I had mine done on the 25th as well. Home yesterday from hospital. So glad to have come home take a shower. still very uncomfortable, but every day getting better. i've slowed down the painkilers - only 1/day usually at bedtime. I had my done at Northern Westchester Hospital in NY. Great doctor, awesome nurses who took care of me. Meet two wonderful ladies who had surgery the same day - we all have had different recoveries, but we've been texting each other and encouragin each other. I've given them this website because i believe it really helps to know that you are not alone. Nobody understands unless they did this. I find it a bit overwhelming trying to get the Protein Drinks, Water and Vitamins down. Trying to get a schedule that fits everything in. I took a 3 hour nap today, so that was good, but then missed my mealtime. i know i will figure it out, but i wish all of us a wonderful and speedy recovery

I was sleeved on July 25 also. I haven't had any major pain--just a little soreness the of surgery after I would walk. Day 2 was awful for me-every sip of Water I took made me throw up. Today seems like I am in a better routine..I just have to take slow drinks and make sure I swallow it down good or all of the gas pushes it back out. Had a few bites of chicken broth and it stayed down so I feel like we are making progress!!

Hi guys, I'm a July 25th sleever as well. I stayed in the hospital until Saturdat and today was my first full day home. I am so not a drinker so I actually had to go searching all over for a shot glass, but I am using that to fill with a Protein drink and sip on it 5-6 times a day. I got in a lot yesterday, but I really had to force it today. So glad I found so many in the same position as me.

I have a question about staples. I have 5 incisions and the one on my side and near my bra line are bothering me more then the others. My doctor said it was ok to not put bandages or band aides on them, but I'm nervous. Has anyone else left theirs open?

I had the surgery on 7/25 and i still have my bandaids on. I dont want to see what is underneath. I am just waiting for them to fall off. I'm pretty sure the nurse told me it was okay to take them off because there are steristrips under them, but i'm a bit nervous to take them off.

Nope, I haven't put a bra on since surgery. I'm worried it would mess with my incision, so I'm giving it just a little while longer. I heard some suggest putting the thick band aids over it. I feel like I'm progressing Ok. I'm having a hard time finding a Protein Drink that I like. I'm down 14lbs since the surgery. I honestly don't really have interest in any food at this point. I have to basically force myself to get my Water down. I think yesterday I had one cup of Jello and a few ounces of water, and a little broth. Plus, I have the whole diarrhea thing going on. Grrrr! I haven't had pain meds since I got out of the hospital, but I do find it hard to get comfortable. How's everyone else?

I am down 18 pounds but my monthly friend arrived today so I am sure I will see a slow down in the next couple days. I found Ensure Extra Protein drink the chocolate flavor and its the only one I can keep down. I can't stand the nectar or powder stuff. I didn't want to buy it because i thought Ensure was only for older people and it wouldn't help but trust me, amazing!!! 25g of protein and only 5 sugars. You have the get the tall bottles and not the shorter ones. The shorter ones have too much sugar.

i don't mean to sound gross but I have not pooped since the day before surgery. I would love diarrhea by now:). Lol. I hope everyone is doing ok! Go us for doing this for our health!!

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣
