Recommended Posts

Hello there!!!

Today is my fist day of liquid pre-op diet, I have read and seen so many videos of people struggling through the first days of liquid diet............... "NOW" I get it! hahahhhaha

My surgery day is July 4th 2013.

I'm almost done with day 1!!!

My menu so far has been:

Breakfast: vanilla Isopure with Water, 4 oz grape juice mixed with 2 cups water.

Middle morning: sugar free Jello

Lunch: 1 cup chicken broth, 4oz cranberry juice mixed with 2 cups water.

Middle afternoon: sugar free jello

Dinner: planning to have 1 cup of Isopure Zero Carb clear Protein and 1 cup of tea.

I guess the rest of my days will be similar, any ideas???

Hi Ladies,

I haven't started my liquid diet yet.. will on 7/03rd.. I'm scheduled for surgery on 7/11th.

But pretty much what you are having is what I will be having. Oh my DR did add SF popsicles No more then 3 a day.

How are the Isopure?

Am on Celebrate ENS + Protein shake (Vanilla Cake Batter). It Good but the price for every 2 weeks is not so good. LOL

Diva, How do you do it. I haven't cooked since i started my pre op diet on 6/18th. Its so tempting. My hubby is becoming a great cook.

Today I cooked tostadas de ensalada de pollo y sopa de fideo to my husband... I really didn't felt anything for it.

At this time of the day (8pm) I'm feeling very sleepy and I usually go to bed around 11:30pm.

I'm newbie on this site, I hope to keep in touch with all of you.

PhoenixTheDiva so you're going under surgery one day before me!!! Congratulations! Hang in there! Good luck to you too.

Lizcalle GNC products in Mexico are very expensive, for example Isopure Zero Carb vanilla powder $1,300 pesos, aprox. $100dlls. Last week I payed for a bottle of

Nature's Best® Isopure Zero Carb (Clear Liquid) $90 pesos, aprox. $7dlls Congrats to you too!!!! I'm so excited to start this journey!

I'm a week out today, I've been drinking the Premiere Protein from costco and it's like drinking YooHoo boxes!! I also like the Muscle Milk Light, not as much protein but still yummy. It tastes like the milk after you eat cocoa puffs or Coco Krispies :)

Hi Ladies,

I just had surgery on Monday, June 24, 2013. I'm a conversion from plication with lapband to sleeve. My surgery was fairly extensive but since I've had surgery twice before, I pretty much knew what to expect from recovery. Right now I'm trying to get in as much Protein and liquid as my new tiny tummy will allow. Over the course of the day I usually drink warm tea in the a.m. as that is pretty easy to get down. Then Isopure Clear mixed with Crystal Light. Next, I'll have a Protein Shake probably Bariatric Advantage or Syntrax Nectar. I try to drink Water too. Then I'll have about 1/4 c. of chicken broth, maybe a SF Jello or popsicle. I can only drink about 1/4 c. over about 30 minutes or so. It's very slow going and I've averaging only about 300 calories per day. I've lost quite a bit of weight so I'm sure when I do add more solid Proteins, I'll stall a bit. I'm very happy that my surgery is done and I'm finally on the losers bench! Good luck to everyone! :)

Hi genepha,

I also am going from lapband to sleeve. I suffered for 2 yrs of throwing up everything I ate even drinking sometimes. A friend gave me her Syntrax Nectar... omg I love it. It so different from just protien. My Dr also told me that my surgery was going to be about 6 hrs or so long. Nervous. .. am glad to know your doing well after surgery. Keep in touch with us about your journey. :)

Hi Liz,

Oh my gosh! I'm so excited to finally be done with the band after 12 looong years!! I felt so defeated after I had my band replaced in 2011 and I still wasn't losing much weight. After my sleeve surgery and my surgeons discovered so many problems, I finally felt vindicated. My prior surgeon lectured me on using my band but of course, I know now it wasn't working properly - Grrr! My only regret is that I didn't do the sleeve in 2011. Oh well, I wouldn't be as grateful for the sleeve as I am now! :)

Good luck to you on your journey. I'm sure everything will be wonderful. The recovery is a bit rough but at least you know what to expect since you're experienced! Take it easy the first few days and sip, sip, sip and walk, walk, walk!

Take care,

Jenn

Dear penguin13 and genepha

Nice to meet you! :) And thanks for replying to my post.

I'm glad to hear that both of you are doing just great! Keep up the good work!

I am so excited!!!! 4 more days to go and I'll be on the losers bench!

I have a question....

I do not fear anesthesia nor pain or scars....

I'm terrified about the drain, how bad is it?

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
