12 days post op. Protein and sleep question.

Recommended Posts

I'm 12 days post op doing pretty good but can't stomach Protein Shakes anymore. I've tried 4 different Protein Drinks that I liked pre surgery now the thought of them makes me want to gag. So I'm thinking about trying some apple sauce, soft cheese, cream of wheat and/or cottage cheese today. I'm suppose to be liquids for 2 more days but can't get my Protein in. I tried Isopure as well. YUCK Any suggestions?

Also I slept like a baby week 1 now this past week I can't sleep more than 4 hours at night. It's driving me crazy!

Look at the topic Favorite Protein powders or rtd. A lot of good suggestions!

No I haven't. I've done premier Protein, Isopure, whey, Atkins, and unjury. I use to love Premier Protein. I just stomach any of them and tired of wasting money.

Try a sample pack of Syntrax or Unjury. I'm pre-op but I really like the Syntrax nectar sweets. Or you could try an unflavored Protein in crystal lite or diluted juice.

I'm about 12 days also. I can only take 1/4 cup/2oz of anything. Are you experiencing the same?

Also try an unflavored Protein (I have unjury) and add a little powder to the food you're eating.

Don't like Unjury anymore. Going to try a little cream of wheat this morning.

I constantly sip as I remember so I can usually get about 6-8 oz an hour.

Mississippi I usually go to GNC to try new things but the prices are adding up. Hopefully on pureed I can get my Protein in without Protein Drink supplements. I know it's only 2 days early but I'm still nervous about starting purees.

I also will be 3 weeks Monday and have started puree a couple days ago. Haven't had any problems. Just make good choices on what you eat.

I hated the Protein Shakes too. But if i was gonna be successful with this -I decided I am going to follow all the rules given to me by my bariatric surgeon and nurtrionist. So I made myself like Bariatric Fusion shakes. chocolate Mousse or chocolate chip with mint flavors are my faves. I made myself get aquired to the taste. I also use Slim-Fast- high Protein version- has 20 grams of protein and low carbs.

I only had to do 2 days on Clear Liquids and 1 week on full liquids, so was on pureed after 9 days, and had no problems at all. Pureed Soups are good, as well as cottage cheese. You'll be fine and it seems you'll be more likely to fulfill your Protein requirements if you find something you like. I stilll have one protein drink a day... usually hot chocolate. Good luck!

I'm also 12 days out and having the same problem with the shakes and such. It just makes me run to the bathroom now. I've been trying to sip the Isopure fruity ones from GNC (with Mio or some flavoring put in...) slowly, but that doesn't always work either. I'm having trouble getting all my protien in some days too..

One thing I did found that I LOVE is BariWise hot chocolate. It comes in different chocolate flavors and it's really good! It's only 15 grams of Protein, but that's better than none in a drink right? :P

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
