12 days post op. Protein and sleep question.

I'm 12 days post op doing pretty good but can't stomach protein shakes anymore. I've tried 4 different protein drinks that I liked pre surgery now the thought of them makes me want to gag. So I'm thinking about trying some apple sauce, soft cheese, cream of wheat and/or cottage cheese today. I'm suppose to be liquids for 2 more days but can't get my protein in. I tried Isopure as well. YUCK Any suggestions?

Also I slept like a baby week 1 now this past week I can't sleep more than 4 hours at night. It's driving me crazy!

Look at the topic Favorite protein powders or rtd. A lot of good suggestions!

Have you tried Visalus? I can't drink any other protein drinks but Visalus is the only thing I like.

No I haven't. I've done premier protein, isopure, whey, Atkins, and unjury. I use to love premier protein. I just stomach any of them and tired of wasting money.

Try a sample pack of Syntrax or Unjury. I'm pre-op but I really like the Syntrax nectar sweets. Or you could try an unflavored protein in crystal lite or diluted juice.

I'm about 12 days also. I can only take 1/4 cup/2oz of anything. Are you experiencing the same?

Also try an unflavored protein (I have unjury) and add a little powder to the food you're eating.

Don't like unjury anymore. Going to try a little cream of wheat this morning.

I constantly sip as I remember so I can usually get about 6-8 oz an hour.

Mississippi I usually go to gnc to try new things but the prices are adding up. Hopefully on pureed I can get my protein in without protein drink supplements. I know it's only 2 days early but I'm still nervous about starting purees.

I also will be 3 weeks Monday and have started puree a couple days ago. Haven't had any problems. Just make good choices on what you eat.

I hated the protein shakes too. But if i was gonna be successful with this -I decided I am going to follow all the rules given to me by my bariatric surgeon and nurtrionist. So I made myself like Bariatric Fusion shakes. Chocolate Mousse or chocolate chip with mint flavors are my faves. I made myself get aquired to the taste. I also use Slim-Fast- high protein version- has 20 grams of protein and low carbs.

Try adding a fruit flavored protein powder to jello or adding a chocolate or vanilla protein powder to no sugar added hot chocolate.

I only had to do 2 days on clear liquids and 1 week on full liquids, so was on pureed after 9 days, and had no problems at all. Pureed soups are good, as well as cottage cheese. You'll be fine and it seems you'll be more likely to fulfill your protein requirements if you find something you like. I stilll have one protein drink a day... usually hot chocolate. Good luck!

I'm also 12 days out and having the same problem with the shakes and such. It just makes me run to the bathroom now. I've been trying to sip the Isopure fruity ones from GNC (with Mio or some flavoring put in...) slowly, but that doesn't always work either. I'm having trouble getting all my protien in some days too..

One thing I did found that I LOVE is Bariwise hot chocolate. It comes in different chocolate flavors and it's really good! It's only 15 grams of Protein, but that's better than none in a drink right? :P

I'm in Ireland & my regime is quite a bit different from a lot of what I've read here. I'm on Day 25. I had a 5 day stay at hospital(4 nights). On 1st & 2nd day light sipping of water. On 3rd day liquid flavoured protein drink (30mls) every hour with 60mls water on the half hour in between - from 8AM to 10PM. On 4th day we had pureed food (chicken, carrot, brocolli, potato & gravy - all remoulded to look more appetising -NOT!) We were expected to eat approximately 80g to 100g of this but mostly the chicken. We had to be able to eat before we could go home. From then on we were to eat 'soft' food, minced or cut up small with a little sauce or gravy, eat protein first, that's the priority. Avoid fibre - so as not to fill up too quickly. Do not drink half hour before or after eating. Eat very small bites, chew until the food is a paste in your mouth & take a break between bites (mindful eating). If you don't do this you will know all about it - you will feel sick, probably like a lead ball is in your chest & you'll probably throw up. We are recommended to use the protein drink to supplement our protein intake - I bought pure natural whey powder from organic cows - nothing added, which is what I use. I have 3 meals (approximately 150g to 200g food per meal) which take about 20mins to half hour to eat & 3 snacks in between, which I usually have a protein smoothie including some berries & half a sml banana or 2tsp peanut butter on a buckwheat cracker with 1/2tsp of low sugar jam - delish! I have had no trouble at all, thank god, each week is different as I get used to the regime & my body gets used to the change. I eat a huge variety of foods, I'm sure to eat a minimum of 65g protein each day (usually more), I take my vitamin supplements & a drug to help prevent gall stones caused by rapid weight loss. I've been losing an average of 5.6 lbs per week, this week I lost 4lbs. We have to exercise every day, get the heart pumping for 10/15mins at least, with a sweat but a minimum of half hour walking. I've added a half hour routine of high intensity rapid weights (intense for me!) & that is really making a difference. I'm sleeping so well after years of only 2 hrs at a time, no inhalers for asthma, I have so much energy - I'm loving it. I don't miss anything(yet!) but I'm so grateful for this opportunity for feeling so well, and positive, and optimistic, I don't think there is anything could spoil that.
