What does caffeine do?

Recommended Posts

What does caffeine do to your sleeve? I thought I was being a good little sleever and not having caffeine as the Snapple label makes no mention of caffeine BUT after 5 weeks I found out that it really does have caffeine. Caffeine is a big no no per my doc till after 12 weeks.

Caffeine does not hurt your sleeve. Some surgeons say no caffeine forever, some say for a few weeks and some are offered caffeine in the hospital. The whole thing behind it is that it can be a diuretic and can irritate your sleeve while it is healing. Also, slight chance could cause ulcers if the irritation continues.

Most folks enjoy caffeine again after surgery. I have been since 3 weeks out.

Couldn't tell ya! Doesn't bother me, never gave it up pre or post. Told surgeon it was non negotiable and he signed on. Never had a problem.

It helps me poop! Like John..this was my one non negotiable..I gave up smoking, Pop, crappy foods, etc! I just couldn't give up coffee too.

I drink one cup a day with sugar free Creamer and a splenda

I had not had any caffeine since May 13th and this being my first week back to work I was kind of dragging today so I decided to try my sample of Chike Iced coffee. They don't say exactly how much caffeine is in it they say "Each serving of Chike Iced coffee is equivalent to a cup of the leading premium coffee." It tastes great but after not having caffeine for over a month I was shaking and had that speedy feeling on only 2/3 of it!

So maybe be careful to not have your usual amount and start small. That would not have had any effect on me a couple months ago.

This is another one of those things that differ from surgeon to surgeon. I was given caffeinated black tea while still in the hospital the day after surgery. I regularly drink tea and coffee with no issues.

My surgeon said if I drank caffeine to limit it to 8oz a day. It can cause dehydration, and a lot of sleevers have a hard enough time getting their fluids in and staying hydrated.

I never really had issues getting enough fluids after surgery so I went straight for my quad espresso at work. Sleevie Ray Vaughn did not like that much at one time so we've agreed that doubles were okay - again only because I get enough fluids in per day.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
