Hello Everyone,

As you can all tell I am a NEWBIE and I'm just about to start the journey of the sleeve gastrectomy. i have not told many people but the little I have told have already tried to give their "advice" of what they have "heard" or what they think they know. As I will need to tell more people i.e. family, friends, and etc, how do I deal with the negative advice? What are some tips to deal with those type of people? What are some tips/advice for a newbie like myself just starting to go through the process. Some do's and don'ts if you will. Any advice from those who have done it or currently going through it would be great!!

Thanks,

OldskoolHeart

P.S.

I would like friends, please add me if you want someone to talk too!!

I dealt with this mostly from my boyfriends mum. She told me everything she had heard about how it could go wrong, how I would be sick for months, how uncomfortable my life would be. You just have to thank them for their concern (remember they only care about you) but let them know, with confidence, that this is your decision and you are happy with it.

I know in my experience she still didn't agree with it and even now seeing the result she still purses her lips and clicks her tongue but who cares! I'm happy and healthy and that's what matters!

Good luck and let me know how you go

I was lucky. I didn't have too many negative comments. But when I did, it was one of two reactions. I was met with dead silence or the dreaded "oh" in response to mentioning my decision. In that case, I just dropped the subject because I knew they weren't going to be supportive no matter what. Then there was the "Know it all". Had all the answers, advice, etc. In that case, I just politely let them I did my homework and researched it a great deal. I know there will be some that no matter what you say, they just keep going on and on. Just ignore them and keep on going! Best of luck to you! :)

First and foremost- be selective in who you tell, since you can't untell.

Secondly- do your homework. I work in a doctors office and I had a doctor tell me that I would "have to take Iron shots for the rest of your life". Which I politely said was "not necessarily true (moron)".

That's all I got. :)

Thank you for the advice. I think I get so excited that I want to tell everybody not thinking that everyone will approve, not that it matters.

EWhitt-You are hilarious.

Prayergirl-I will take your advice to heart.

I'm excited and nervous all at the same time. I just want to do this and get to a better me, some people won't/don't understand that.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
