Anyone have experience with BC/BS Excellus from NY?

Recommended Posts

I currently have BC/BS of AL and I already had the lap band, which had to be removed because it eroded into my stomach. I LOVED the band - it totally worked for me! But unfortunately my dr. Had to remove it. So that made me fall into the category of "only 1 WLS per lifetime!"

But my husbands job has the Excellus BC/BS of NY. I wondered if anyone has used them and what their experience has been. We are a family of 6 being covered under my schools BC/BS and it is overall better coverage for less money. I don't want to jeopardize my whole family just so I can "possibly" get covered! But I'm just at a roadblock because I really need/want the sleeve & my dr. Has recommended it & approved me from his end but now insurance/$ is in the way.... Anyone have suggestions, comments?

Yes, I would LOVE to just go to Mexico & private pay but I have 2 kids in college & 1 high school senior! So any extra $ goes towards that! I need HELP- I'm desperate! & up 30 pounds since the band was removed:(

Find out if your husbands ins covers it and have him take it out but don't drop yours.

I already inquired about that but we would have to take out the family coverage for his company....they wouldn't just sign on for me. So we really can't afford 2 premiums from both companies. All this to say I don't even know if Excellus would even cover it. I just wondered anyone else's experience with them. I do realize each case is different though. Still trying to figure out the best route to go! It is soooo frustrating! People with heart problems or other illnesses don't have to jump through all these hoops! There is no cut & dry, definitive answers for us! If I just had an extra 5000-8000 dollars lying around I would already had it done!

Hello there well herea

my 2 cents... I currently have Independance blue PPO but any surgical is covered through Highmark and all will be billed through excellus bcbs so yes they do cover it AS LONG as there is no employer exclusion which is what happend to me last yr and in jan my hubby employer switched ins co so first call and make sure the employer has not opted out of bariatric coverage and go from the there ..best of luck

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
