February 2007 bandsters!

One of my girlfriends, who happens to be 5 months pregnant, and I went shopping and out to eat tonight. She loves IHOP. So, after looking over the menu...nothing on kids that I could have, I ordered the spinach and mushroom omlette with holondaise sauce on top, and told them to keep the 3 pancakes that came with it. It was GREAT....I ate slow...chewed my food. It had diced tomatoes and cheese in it as well. Very tasty and went down well. I only had to eat 1/3 of it before feeling full and pushing it to the side. My girlfriend, who loves food as much as I do, and is a BBW herself, was astonished that I was full. She has been witness to my enormous appetite over the years and watched me put away alot of food in one sitting. She said she is so glad I'd done this for myself.....so am I.

I was bannded on Feb 15. I was doing great with healing and weight loss, but now I can eat almost anything. I'm hungry every couple of hours, not to mention how my mind wants to eat all the time. I have gained back 2lbs. I know I need to be more careful of the calories I take in, but getting over my thoughts is proving to be the biggest challenge. I know when to stop and haven't had anything get stuck, but this is so frustrating! Please tell me it gets better after a fill.

Hey guys still on the mushy stage of life.

If you are interested in a healthy mushy.

I found garlic cauliflower in a steamer bag, cooked it and used my boat motor or bullet to mush it up and ate it. It was better than mashed potatoes!

Black Beans with onions and a bit of garlic mashed up is also very tasty and good for you.

My doctor said egg flour Soup was okay. I just had some tonight and it was awesome to have warm food for once. I loved the texture too. I had to take the pees, carrots and celery out (well most of it!) If I got a little bit of something in my mouth, I chewed it really well. I am craving a lot of foods but have been loosing.

I'm back too. I had my surgury on the 26th and I'm feeling Ok but I have the shoulder pain and a bad headache. I also feel hungry all the time but I absolutly hate all the food I am allowed to eat. anyone have any suggestions on stage 3 foods to get by with?:hungry:

If your stage 3 is like mine..mushies... I was surprised to hear I could have cereal! Just has to be really soggy. Hope that helps! :myscared: I'm still on Clear liquids for this week, then creamy stuff for two weeks...so basically 3 weeks til mushies! YAY!

hey thanks SO MUCH for mushy food tips!!!

My family has all migrated here to where i am now and ive noticed that the biggest activitity in my family is "lets go get something to eat!". Its really opened my eyes to how MUCH my family LOVES THIS activity. Ive done well, i havent got off mushies, but one can only eat so much smashed guts of a potato.

My mother just doesnt understand, and keeps trying to get me to eat bread or giant bay scallops...lol..

i havent caved.

I had an episode yesterday morning with scrambled eggs. I was very hungry and was taking too big of bites. and had the

a) stuck

:myscared: slimmmmmme

and then c) up she goes!

on a BITE of scrambled eggs!

so im back to serious squishies.

My doctor has explained to me that right now its not about weight loss. For five weeks after surgery, its all about healing, and SCAR TISSUE. they want the band to form a firm scar on the outside of your stomach, so that when they do a fill it will be effective, and also have less problems later on.

Some examples of foods ive been chowing on:

a) tofu (its firm but the consistency of cooked egg whites) marinated in balsamic vinegar and sauteed in extra virgin olive oil.

:Banane32: tofu marinated in terriaki sauce and wrapped in foil and baked in oven

c) scrambled eggs

d) insides of baked potato

e) bean Soup (yum)

f) pea soup (eh)

g) small can of Beans n franks (beaten to a pulp and eaten with small spoon)

h) Tomato soup! (yum!)

i ) mashed bananas

j) yogurt with Cereal (stir well to coat the cereal and let set for a while to get less crispy)

k) and for a treat, PUDDIN! woohoo!

so..with all that and the occassional protien drink, im getting by.

oh..

im riding the bike outside for about an hour and a half every morning at sunrise. I take my ipod, put on my bike ridin outfit and take off. I have literally been so happy doing this that ive cried. i know that sounds really mushy.

Hi Goldie,

Where at in Maryland, were you banded? Most likely not on the Eastern Shore, though? I was banded in Salisbury, Md. on 2/14.

I was banded on 2/12 and am feeling great. Down 14 pounds and eating "normal" food. Won't be getting a fill until 4/3 and noticing that I'm able to eat more. It's tough keeping those portions small, but I'm seeing progress. Hang in there gang, we're going to do this!

This really encourages me. I will be banded in April. Thanks.:myscared:

Just wanted to give an update…. :update:

I have been banded 9 days. I have lost 13 pounds since the day of the surgery. I am currently eating mushies and have been for about 5 days. As of tomorrow I can add certain soft foods such as eggs and soft vegetables. I am still eating under 1000 calories a day. I am being very careful about what I am eating. I am keeping track of my intake of calories, carbs, fat and Protein. I have a little book that I am writing down everything I eat. I then record the results into a spread sheet. I have found a great web site for getting all the information…http://www.calorieking.com/foods.

For exercise I started with walking around my front living room and bar area. I was walking just 30 minutes a day, then went to walking 45 minutes a day. Today I went down to the <ST1:place><?xml:namespace prefix = st1 /><st1:PlaceName>Fish</st1:PlaceName> <st1:PlaceType>Creek</st1:PlaceType> <st1:PlaceName>Linear</st1:PlaceName> <st1:PlaceType>Park</st1:PlaceType></ST1:place>. I walked two miles in an hour. I am going to start going there in the mornings before I have to be at work. I am also going to walk on my lunch hour. I am having weird sharp pains under the biggest incision. The gas pain can still get pretty bad at times, too. Walking has helped with the gas pains a little.

I am going back to work on Monday. I cant wait to get back and see everyone.<O:p></O:p>

Every day seems that I turn another corner for the best. I'm still itching like crazy, however, this a.m. I was able to, with the aid of several pillows.. lay on my side! HOORAH! it still slighly pulls on my port site which isn't v. comfy but it's a nice few minute change from laying on my back.

It doesn't take much to wear me out. I go back to work tomorrow and kind of dread it, I have a desk job though so the worst part will be going from truck to desk. after that I should be fine. I'm eating a soft scrambled egg right now that DHxa_heart.gif made for me.

I think finally today, some of my swelling has gone down.

I will be 3 weeks post-op on Tuesday and I am still off work. I am signed off until March 13th. Initially it was due to the hiatal hernia repair but now it's down to post-op depression. I have suffered from depression for 13 years and have had this before. I'm sleeping 16 hours a day and not able to step foot outside the house. Hopefully when I've seen my consultant the week after next I will feel a bit better. Last year when I had my umbilical hernia repaired the depression lasted 6 weeks; hopefully as I'm losing weight I will recover more quickly this time.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
