Hello everyone,

I have a question, my body shape is considered Apple (I guess they want to be nice; creating all of these fruit shapes) meaning I'm larger on the top than the bottom. Where did most of your weight come off after you were sleeved? I have so much upper body weight that it drives me crazy. Did you lose all over or mostly on top? Talk to me.

I'm only five weeks post-op, but so far most of my 23 lb loss has come from my stomach and hips. I do feel a little looser in the bra area as well.

First boobs (what little I have) then legs and face. Stomach last.... Still waiting for lol I'm also larger on top than bottom.

With my band I lost 155lbs, I was apple before a size 28W top and 24W pants, and 12 or Large on top and a 8/10 bottom. My breasts went from DD to full C, but the worst was my arm flaps... Seriously like 6 inch dangly wings. I could whip out the "after" band photos, but they make me depressed, seeing as I have gained every pound back.

I just worry that I will loose from the lower part of my body first. I am going to love when my top and bottom match; I've never been able to purchase anything to wear as a set.

I'm sure I'm going to be buying some of those eventually; had a reduction years ago, now I'm gonna have to add after I have this weightloss from my sleeve.

Hope mine will just work on coming from the waist area/upper stomach, and all this stuff on my sides/back boobs.

You gained all the 155 pounds you lost from the band? What happened? What was your weight before starting you journey with the band. Are you preparing for a sleeve, also?

I had a band put in 9/08, lost 155lbs from 333 to 178, kept it off for 14 months. Then got pregnant with my first, I had gained three pounds at 25 weeks pregnant. At 26 weeks I started vomiting uncontrollably, had my band loosened, kept vomiting, was diagnosed with gallstones, kept vomiting, got down to 163lbs (at 26 weeks pregnant), had emergency gallbladder removal at which time Dr.Fass saw that my band had twisted and felt my it couldn't be reseated safely and had to be removed. It has completely kinked off and stopped me from getting any nutrition.

I was devastated. My band really really helped me control my eating. I loved my band. I gave birth in may at 260 lbs, got pregnant again at 280 lbs, then gave birth at 325lbs. I was super depressed over my band loss, plus starving from my newly enlarged stomach, plus pregnant. It was a huge amount of weight again in a very short period. I am not proud of it.

Dr.Fass was concerned that with my scarring from my lap band another was out of the question. I opted for the sleeve, upon his recommendation. I am sincerely hoping it works as well for me as the band. I wanted to wait until my son was around a year for breastfeeding purposes, and now I am ready to be sleeved the 28th, he will be one on 7/5.

Oh that is so good. I'm happy you're getting sleeved soon. My weight is steadily creeping up and it's starting to bring on depression. I don't go many places because it's so difficult to find decent clothes. I find myself wearing the same outfit repeatedly; because I may look halfway decent in it. :( Where are you getting sleeved by and where.

What was your sleeve cost?

What was your weight and height before sleeve?

A lot has to do with breast tissue density, which is a characteristic that varies significantly. If your breast density is high, you will lose less weight in your breasts than if it is lower. Basically, the ratio of breast tissue to fat. After 77 lbs gone, I went from a very full 44 DD or EE to a regular (not full) 36 DD. I'm considering a reduction.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
