What OTC acid reducer did you take 3 days post op?

Recommended Posts

I got nexium that dissolves in 15 ml of Water and I can't stomach it. What do you suggest? Looking for something that you can dissolve under your tongue.

Prilosec or the generic version over the counter in a pill form. I did not have any issues with heart burn though, I only had issues with the gas.

I did omeprazole too (generic prylosec) recommended by my surgeon. Worked well. I forgot I was supposed to take it and did have heartburn for a few days. As soon as I started taking it, heartburn went away and haven't had it since and I am 5 weeks out.

What did you do for gas besides walk? I'm not sure what I'm feeling. It happens as soon as I drink.

My Surgeon recommended pepcid chewables. They did the trick for me.

Has anyone stopped using PPI after awhile? And how far out were you? I decided to try to stop and see how I do. I am 6 mo post op. thought I would take tums or rolaids if I do occasionally get heartburn. Hope it works. Am trying to wean myself off of many of my meds. Just stopped Ambien CR 2 weeks ago and am finally sleeping 4-6 hours a night . Have taken it for so many years it was very hard.

Interesting topic! I was given a prescription for Omeprazole by my surgeon and told to take it every day for 3 months. I've only got a couple week's worth left to go. During my first week post op, I did forget to take it for a couple of days. I don't think I had heartburn, not sure. (everything feels different with the sleeve) What it did do was give me a dry cough. Once I started taking it again, the cough went away. Strange!

I take Prilosec otc (little purple pill you swallow) before I go to bed every night. This is what my surgeron recomended.

Before I started the prilosec (1 week post op) I would wake up in the morning hamster hungry to the point of being nauseos but I was told that was the acid in my stomach. I have not had any issues since starting the prilosec.

My surgeon did say to avoid Tums since it has Calcium and it will releive the heartburn initially but the calcium gets the acid juices going again so you end up in a continious loop.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
