Had my band to sleeve surgery on Tuesday

Recommended Posts

I had my band to sleeve revision on Tuesday, and I've got to say it was a lot more pain this time around. It was also my 1st experience with a catheter and a drainage tube. Not fun taking those out. The 1st 36 hours were rough but I'm feeling a lot better today. I've had a shake & a couple of Popsicles. My Dr. says it will get better as time goes on, I've got an appointment with him next week.

I haven't heard of many people getting a catheter... where was your surgery?

Congrats on your revision! I will be joining you on the sleeve side soon!

I am sorry to hear about the pain. I am so very nervous about waking up and be in extreme pain. Yes, I asked if I would be getting a catheter or a drain tube, they said no on the catheter and a possible on the drainage tube. I will be getting sleeved on 28 May, I am just ready to get it over with and start my new journey. I am so very nervous about putting any weight on my stomach, they told me that i wouldn't be drinking anything the first day after surgery, but would start after my barium swallow to check for a leak, is that what happended to you?

catheter?

I never had one of those. that does not sound pleasant

The drain is a pain was my mantra, but once it was removed, it became easier to move around

I was revised on Tuesday, too! Staci, I had my surgery early in the am and NOTHING by mouth until about 2 pm on Wed...after doing the xrays with contrast to check for leaks. I didn't experience any extreme pain, although I did have one bout of severe gas for about 1.5 hrs later that evening. That hurt like hell and the dr had left orders for morphine if I needed it...nurse didn't give it...only gave the "regular" stuff. I didn't find that out until the NEXT day, so instead, I walked, stood, rocked from foot to foot, etc...and it went away. Probably better in the long run that I dealt with it that way vs being doped and in bed. But t the time, I would definitely have preferred being doped!

So try not to worry about the pain...sometimes the anticipation of it is worse than the reality.

Right now, I'm VERY glad to have my band out. I think the band was causing some irritation and chest discomfort for much longer than I realized. And to be able to lie down without gurgling, sleeping through the night without coughing or reflux...even WITH the surgery incisions and drain is just HEAVEN!

A catheter is place if you are in surgery past the original 2-3 hrs. I had one in but it came out very quick and no pain-didn't even feel it-I have had longer ones though but they didn't hurt either. My doctor did not keep a drain in me-he says he never found them very useful.....

Staci... I had y band to sleeve this past Tuesday with Dr. Kim. Yes, I think I am experiencing more pain than with my band, but for the most part, I am doing well. My surgery was first thing in the morning on Tuesday and I could not have anything until about 830am Wednesday. I did not have a catheter, and to my knowledge, I don't have a drain either. Unfortunately, I do have these horrible staples all over my stomach and cannot wait to get them out on Thursday.

Yes they told me that I would be having the staples too, I questioned that but it is to get us to come postop and they do heal better, did they keep your pain level under control?

I had my surgery at Des Peres hospital in St. Louis. I think most of my pain at first was because my upper stomach was so irritated from my prolapse. It'll be one week tomorrow & I'm not feeling any pain. I've got a question I'm showing I start full liquids tomorrow & I get blended Soups does anyone know what that is& can I have Tomato Soup?

I'm blending my Soup in the food processor and then putting them thru a strainer to get the stuff that doesn't break down out.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
