Do you still feel the urge to binge eat?

Recommended Posts

After you've had surgery, do you still feel the need to fill a never ending void?? At a buffet... What happens when you want to taste a bit of everything! Are you dissapointed when you're full after only 2 bites? Side note: I'm on day 1 of clear liquids! This time next week I'll be part of the club!!!! But for now, I still dream of stuffing my face..... Haha!

I still feel that way, but now my body dictates what I can and can't eat. I love that.

It's stomach surgery not brain surgery, so yes. Good question though and my advise is to come to terms with that ASAP and the inevitable post sleeve buyers remorse won't get the better of you. In my experience the cravings diminish in intensity the more distance or time I put between myself and the object of my obsession . For me it took a conscious decision to not hurt myself because I'm mad, hurt, disappointed, ect. With someone else be it with a drink, drug , or a #7 value meal (supersized) .

I used to enjoy a good buffet, but now the thought of spending that kind of money and not able to eat much seems like a waste to me. I do not miss it at this point. I was sleeved 2/28 and there are times I think I miss eating more, but when I see the results of NOT eating like that, I don't miss it at all. I did enjoy a great dinner at Red Lobster a few days before I started the liqiud preop diet and so I made my peace there. These moments of missing stuff like that is fleeting at times. Way better than eating a buffet and wishing I was "in the club." :D

We pretty much avoid buffets now, except for old Country buffet, because with the bariatric surgery card we eat for half price, so it's really cheap, and i get to sample a little bit of everything. We don't go there often though, as it is really hard and frustrating the first 6 months or so ( or so my hubby says) because you can only eat a few bites and very slowly. The best way we do eating out now, is to get take out, or just get the food to go. Then we have left overs for several days worth or meals and don't have to sit in the restaurant with bread staring at us, or the other freebies, or watching and smelling all the food.< /p>

The head hunger is the worst part, because you don't physically feel hungry, but omg a milk shake sounds sooo good! Avoiding restaurants the first few months is the best option, in my opinion. It takes a while to retrain your head, and it's not easy, by any means, but as the time passes it gets easier and easier. Especially when you can eat real food again and after a few bites you are full and satisfied. Now i was sleeved March 6 and am just getting to that point where i feel mentally satisfied with my tiny portion of food. The key is to eat it slowly and savor the flavor, and texture.

This is helpful, as you said to, come to terms with. Binging is dangerous and obviously leads to weight gain. I just need to find ways to cope and resist the urge post-sleeve so that I don't to real damage as well. Thank you for sharing the truth.

Binging... It is something that if not worked on pre-op and post op, can become an issue later on.

In the beginning months, say up until the 5th or 6th, it will be hard to do.

But once you are able to eat more? Possible most definitely.

Yes. I will be honest and say that there are time when I think to myself, I wish I could have a whole plate.

Then I look in the mirror and I don't miss it at all :D

I tend to binge on salad. I eat mostly Protein, so I go all out when I allow myself some greens

I don't know about binge eating, but the head hunger is an issue. Like today for example. After about 1-2 pm I am just not hungry, but I eat stuff anyway. It could be Protein, or something at least moderately nutritious or it could be M&Ms. Peanut of course.

Why would I eat if I'm not really hungry? Well who knows.

I'm losing weight at a decent pace and certainly like seeing the scale move downward, but still battle with the food demons in my head on a daily basis.

I'm sure it will be easier as more time passes but I don't know that it will ever be gone completely. Yippie. :(

Binge, no. However, every now and then I miss being able to have a normal portion of something really tasty. I sometimes struggle with feeling satisfied emotionally, with two ounce portions, even though my tummy is quite satisfied.

I'm half relieved and half worried. I'm relieved to know that at some point I'll be able to eat a 'normal' portion of food. (not just a few table spoons) but also worried that eventually I might be able to eat almost as much as I did before. I know it's a psychological process too, so hoping THAT gets sorted out prior to my ability to eat a lot again.

I chose this restrictive surgery because I was sick and tired of losing and gaining, losing and gaining...falling off the wagon wasn't just a meal, a day or a few pounds, but a month and 20 pounds. Now my body makes the decisions for me. No more losing to a weak willpower!

I'm sure you will do fine :)

I will never binge eat again. I refuse to even consider it because that's what I had problems with before surgery. The sleeve is and has to be my new lifestyle and that's what I signed up for when I did it. Having surgery is a pretty desperate measure and I never again want to be desperate with the health of my body and mind. It scares the crap outta me

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
