Lower BMI Bandsters!

BGB: Thanks for the information. That is my next big thing - I will make sure to follow the rules so I can get a good fill, I feel very restricted right now - but of course it is only 1 day after surgery!

I think I am at a good fill right now. I had lunch at 12noon and it's almost 5:00 and I still feel really full.

I worked out this morning. I always feel so much better through out the day after a work out. I really hope I start losing. They say the older you are the harder it is to lose and that really scares me.

Hey Guys,

Just checking in. Its exactly a week since I was banded and I feel pretty good. Ive pulled my bandaids off and my incisions are healing pretty well. Im getting a little over the liquid stage and have introduced a few creamy Soups (with a bit of watering down) so feel a bit better, cant wait to get onto muchies in another week though.

I still havent started an excercise regime but promised myself Id start on Monday. Ive still lost 5.8 kilos (12.8 pounds) so far anyway but I imagine that a bit of that will come back on on the mushie stage. Is that usual?

Last night I was a bit naughty, I had a spoonfull of my friends spagetti bolognaise and chewed, chewed, chewed to death. Felt fine juts very full. After our movie I had half a glass of red wine (I would have normally had half the bottle or more or beer which is what he had - killed me). Im not sure if we are allowed to have alcohol in the liquid stage, anyone know? I felt fine just a bit tipsy but I put that down to lack of food. (With my bowl of Soup and half a glass of red wine, he joked I was the cheapest date Id ever been - true ha ha)

Anyway just wanted to check in to keep me on the right path.

Lily x

Got pictures: My doctor gave me 3 pictures - 2 of my band (9.75cm) and one of the xray liquid going down - did anyone else get a picture of their band?

I didnt. Id love the pictures though. Infact I havent had an xray of my band yet. Is that unusual? I had a new form of band where there are squares all around it that they sew into place to stop any slippage. Has anyone else had this one?

How are you feeling Bikergirl?

Good Morning to all,

I am in the first stages with a BMI of 36. I am at 200 lbs and I am 5' 2'. I have high cholestrol. under active thyriod, arthritis in my low back and knees, Reflux, and my blood pressure is borderline (145/80). I come from a family of 6 girls and one rather skinny, blue eyed, blonde, curly haired brother. Two of my sisters (almost 300 lbs) have had gastric bypass(not for me) and one sister who is 400+. I just heard about the band last month and have done a ton of research on it. It sounds like the tool for me. What have you used for proof of weight loss ( reached goal with ; Jenny, WW, Medifast, & Nutrisystem) and does anyone have Harvard Pilgrim. I spoke to someone else but they are over 40 BMI. Best of luck to all

Gold thimble, I can't answer any of your questions but I just wanted to say welcome. I hope you are able to make a decision you are comfortable with. It sounds like genetics are going to be working against you, but you can do it! It is a long hard journey, but it is not as bad as the journey we are signing up for if we stay overweight. Best wishes.

I'm doing great November Lily, Thanks for asking - I don't want to get gas so I've been walking around the house - doing minimal house work. My mom is here - so that helps a lot.

I had a slimfast for Breakfast, better than bouillon broth for lunch and I'll have a slimfast for dinner.

My mother took the kids to mcdonalds and to the donut shop - When they came home I looked at it and felt nothing. I felt nothing - before the band I would have been all over those donuts. But I walked right by them like they weren't even there.

I'm so proud of myself. Hope the feel last.

I took my bandages off - still have my sterilstrips - I took a nice shower and washed my hair - It felt so good.

My kids are very supportive also, they are always asking me if I need anything.

But things are going good. Glad I did it!!:clap2: :clap2: :clap2:

You are pretty close to me. I am 5'2" and weigh 192. I was around 215 the day of surgery. I lost all but 2 or 3 lbs on the liquid stage. There are people that have lost over a hundred lbs with their bands, so I have high hopes that I will be successful. I know it's a lot slower for people that are older, and I am 54. It's been maddening that I haven't lost much in the last couple of weeks, but I am hoping the scale will move soon. It's hard not to want to eat junk when you don't see the scale move. I know that would just sabatoge my efforts though.

Before you decide if you want the band, read and read and read. There have been complications with some people that get banded, but if you follow the rules there is a very slim chance of that happening. There are several boards besides this one too that you can get information from. I lost a lot of weight on Atkins down from 240- down to 160 but I knew if I hadn't gotten the band, I would have gained all the rest of it back. I was well on my way.

Hey Bandiva! How are you doing? I have more restriction than I did which is good. I was a little tense today and felt like my stomach was cramping shut so I didn't eat. I had a small dinner and was satisfied.

Good Morning All:

I thought I was going to go crazy during this stage (liquids only), but I'm doing ok. My DH came home last night with a burger from Burger King and I was ok. I didn't want it, especially when I smelt the onions on it. I tried to feed it to the dogs.

I am now 4 days post op - I'm starting to prepare for my next week - Thicker liquids.< /p>

Veronica, I can't do the onions any more either...my husband is glad for that cause he didn't like them anyway now he doesn't have to worry about me cooking with them anymore. lol

Gold thimble it sounds like you have all of the back-up that you need to at least get the ball rolling (co-morbidities and prior weightloss programs) I only had one co-morbidity (borderline hypertention)and weight loss programs with a BMI of 37 and I got approved. Good Luck!

Veronica - Glad to know you are feeling well! Are you hungry at all or do you feel satisfied with just liquids? Keep up posted on your progress.

Tonia - what kind of insurance do you have?

I've decided that if my blood tests come back showing I have diabetes or high cholestoral, I will try to get insurance to approve me. If it shows nothing, I don't think my chances are very good of getting approved. I've already started to lose weight and want to keep it going if the chances of insurance covering it are low. I've already lost 6lbs. I'm 5'2 and weigh 187. I'd have to gain less than 10 lbs to have a bmi of 35 for insurance purposes. Unfortunately, that wouldn't be hard for me at all.

I am surprinsingly motivated to lose right now. I am so scared I won't be able to do it on my own. I'm even more scared that if I do lose the weight I won't be able to keep it off. Story of my life. We have booked a cruise for August and I'd really like to look decent when we go. This October my DH and I Celebrate our 10th anniversary. I dieted before the big day 10 years ago and got down to 133 -- I haven't seen that # on the scale since. I hope to hear about my blood work today. I'm not sure what I want it to reveal.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
