Everyone that has come this far....to have the surgery, is unique and their recovery and rate of weightloss is an individual thing. Rates of success will vary for each of us. Some will lose a lot, some a little. But I will say that no matter how gifted a surgeon is, his hand will not cure an eating disorder. Certainly his instructions are best if followed, but does everyone also floss everyday? We are creatures of free will and some of us will stray and learn the harder way.

I am two months out and found myself eating Doritos in my car and spitting them out. Why in the world would I do that? The answer is, I have an eating disorder. I'm a work in progress. I will fall. I just want to be able to pick myself up again and try. It has nothing to do with being smarter or more motivated....or being better at accepting personal responsibility. And if I can't get a handle on it, I need to head to a professional to help me sort it all out. For those of you who don't stumble, a hearty congrats. For those of you, like me, who do.... let's keep putting one foot in front of the other and try again.

I don't think it's a smart alec response to say that I'll do what I want to do (which IS something I've said' date=' and recently, so I'll assume this comment is about me specifically). I've also never encouraged anyone to do something harmful to themselves. I've never name-called or taken pot shots at anyone, so maybe this isn't directed totally at me, but I think I've been lumped into quite a bit of what you're protesting against as far as comments and/or advice.

You say in the original post you're "really bothered" about going against doctors orders, then respond again saying you're not that bothered by the opposing viewpoint. Which is it? I never presumed you were obtuse or unable to learn new ideas, so I really don't know where the defensiveness is coming from. :\[/quote']

I'm not even sure where u are coming from. I never named names nor said i was speaking of you. I was speaking in general terms. If anyone is being defensive its you. There is a difference in defending my viewpoint and being defensive. If you have issue with some of the things I say perhaps you need to excuse yourself from the conversation. As I have done many times on other posts. You obviously haven't captured at all what I've said at all perhaps you're blinded by your defense of your choices and comments.

You do realize that not everyone was told everything YOU were told' date=' I hope! Surgeons are as different as night and day sometimes. You give the example of drinking from a straw...I am allowed to drink from a straw. I asked. That's just one example. Some surgeons do not see a problem with carbonation in moderation. I highly doubt your surgeon and NUT are the messiahs of VSG. No one's are.

Also, maybe you had brain surgery while they were doing your VSG and all of your bad habits that got you to where you were magically disappeared after surgery. We aren't cured. Sometimes people slip into bad habits for a moment. I didn't lose my humanity when I had surgery. I am still a work in progress and always will be. I didn't eat popcorn a week out- I followed the phases religiously. But, *gasp* I have eaten carbs and horror of horrors, drank out of a straw. I have still managed to lose 95 lbs. Go figure.

I really don't like holier-than-thou's...

-Kendra[/quote']

Amen.... This is why I don't come on this app any more people swear they are MDs and Nuts. Wish everyone could be positive and those who have nothing nice to say shut up.

This is an honest and thoughtful post.

I agree it's best to follow the doctor's orders. I just went off about the negativity on VSG in general. Haha! I also understand how hard those first couple of months are.

Personally, I followed my surgeons directions. I would rather make the decision to follow her instruction than to get a leak or something worse and my feeble response be, "we'll so and so ate this or did that and nothing happened" ....rules are made for a reason and if you're going to trust your surgeon to cut 85% of your stomach out, shouldn't you also trust they know what they are talking about when it comes to your diet and all other things entailed?

I also wonder if a surgeon would cancel surgery on a patient who has an "I know what's best for me not you" or "I get all my info from a forum and they know what's really in my best interest" attitude. I'm thinking they might cancel.

See? I just wanted to say I'm having a biting my tongue moment now!

I just read a post about someone being on full liquids but is eating things on the soft food phase and doing great! Do I feel like fighting with her about it yes! But no because its not worth it really. Except that's she's telling other newly sleeved people.. What a quandary indeed!

So I will say it here.

And by the way if you are eating food you are no longer on full liquids! :P

And who do you think she'll blame when she gets a small bowel obstruction?! It can happen. My surgeon was telling me about someone who tried scrambled eggs too early and had to go into the hospital to have them removed. And she was a NURSE! She knew better.

This is a serious surgery and the consequences to not following rules can be life threatening. Why do people not understand this?

I know what you mean Laura about not saying anything. People who post stuff like that have already made up their minds not to follow dr orders, what good is it to say anything more? As far as the newbies, I would hope they would use their brains and follow their drs orders and not listen to someone who so obviously defies theirs.

Here is my thing...If I decide to do something dumb I am just going to do it. I don't need to come on here to seek permission or approval from others . The cheeseburger posts make me lol bc they are always a train wreck and I truly wonder why anyone would put something like that out there and expect positive responses. I don't know if it is like confession or what?I do get genuinely concerned when people skip stages and say things like "I am not on solids yet but I ate a piece of chicken" I know that they know they shouldn't be doing it otherwise they wouldn't post it so I try to keep quiet but some times I can't help myself.

It's the telling the other people at the same stage.

"Go on its fine, look at me" that gets me because at the end of the day I don't care what you say WE ALL HAD A PROBLEM WITH food.< /p>

And we are still weak over the power we let it hold over us :(

Oh yeah then there is the death thing yeah?

Hello! And Amen. That's exactly my point! If you want to sabotage yourself...fine! But don't come on a "support" forum telling others what they can get away with bc you decided to do what you wanted. After all we are all food addicts of some sorts and this is a disease. Most of the battle is mental. I equate this to a drug/alcohol addiction support group. If one of the substance abuse patients said openly in a group I used and I'm fine so you should too they would be kicked straight out! So cheating stages or instructions shouldn't be encouraged here either. And that doesn't make me holier than thou. That makes me self aware of my challenges and addiction. It means I'm committed to my recovery and lifelong battle with this horrible disease.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
