Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum

Recommended Posts

i am up for another challenge. i think i prefer the shorter time frame as if it is too long i am more easily defeated. anyone else feel that way?

I'm good with a shorter challenge.

5 weeks from this Saturday will be the 4th of July. Let's weigh in on Sats. By this Sat have your goals ready and we will have our first weigh in on the 6th of June.

A question for you all....

When I had my surgery done my surgeon told me to stay under 20g fat, 100g carbs and 1200 calories.

I have been doing calculators online. Most say for my height (5'6") my weight (271) and my activity level (breathing) I should be taking in about 1400 cals a day to lose 3 pounds a week.

I have been very careful...charting every bite that goes in my mouth. I am finding to stay under that fat level I am only taking in about 600-700 cals a day. AND.... I feel like I am eating all day long. I'm wondering if this low caloric intake is why I am not losing??

What does Dr K say you should stay around when it comes to fat/carbs/cals??

I think I need another fill (it's been 6 months.. though I don't seem to be realy loose) and I am going to ask to see the dietician at that time... just wondering if I can get some ideas of "where I should be" before then.

I'm sorry you're having problems! I don't recall Dr. K telling us to eat any specific percentages or grams of fat or carbs. I may be mistaken, but that's what I remember.

I'll tell you what I do. If I'm strict with this eating plan, I lose. If I stray, then I remain the same, but I've never gained yet.

60-80 grams of Protein.

30% of total calories of fat. (less than 30% - is extremely difficult and I would feel like I was dieting again)

Carbs - I do not eat bad carbs. Whole grains only, brown rice and whole grain Pasta. No white sugar or flour. (remember this is my ideal and what works, I'm not always this good)

I eat lean Proteins and veggies. I log my food into www.fitday.com and keep my calories at 1200. I do NOT count calories for my fruit or veggies. I know my body needs those things and I take them as freebies.

I didn't get the band to be on a diet for the rest of my life. I got the band to learn how to eat in a healthy way! A way in which I can live the rest of my life -

I hope this helps. I am sorry you're struggling.

BTW, my portions are measured to 1 cup of solid food and 1.5 cups of salad, i.e. baby spinach or spring mix.

I know when I do eat any bad carbs, I just don't lose. I don't venture over to the white flour/rice/pasta, but I do have sweet treats occasionally.

Working out is also another component that makes a difference in my weight loss. Even if you can do something for 8 mins. a day, it's a good start.

Remember to eat your Protein first! Protein is your priority.

Hey Banditos!

Is everyone busy out of doors - enjoying the late spring days?

I wanted to know if anyone else is interested in doing another challenge? A 4th of July one, perhaps? Starting this Saturday!

I hope the silence here means everyone is well and healthy and happy!

I want to join the next challenge as well. I was hoping to be down 100 around my first year mark, but since I am losing slower I think I will shoot for 233, that will be 75lbs down in a year. Not too shabby. So I think from where I am today (TOM) that is 14lbs. I think I can handle that. Small steps can lead to big results right?

I want to join the next challenge as well. I was hoping to be down 100 around my first year mark, but since I am losing slower I think I will shoot for 238, that will be 75lbs down in a year. Not too shabby. So I think from where I am today (TOM) that is 9lbs. I think I can handle that. Small steps can lead to big results right?

Marie,

i know what ya mean. My year will be June 26. I also wanted to be down 100 by my year. Hmmmmmm... guess it's not gonna happen now  I am at 72 right now... so I am hoping to be down at least 80 by then.

Julie,

Be so proud of losing 72 in a year - that is awesome, more than a pound a week!! go girl!

Dee,

Count me in for the next challenge. The last one helped me stay on track. I'll shoot for 5 lbs in the 5 weeks, since that time will include vacation for me.

Did everybody know Dr. K is in China? Must be awesome.

Well I was going to set out this one, but I decided to go ahead and join. My goal will be to no longer be obese on July 4th. That would mean under 175. I'll weigh in on Saturday.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
