Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum

Recommended Posts

DrewsLou - I won't be there tonight but am planning to be there in May. I have a Mah Jongg game that is lots of fun tonight.

Mal - Did you get your date?

Woofay - That's lousy that they forgot about you. Did you let a secretary know? I hope you let them know. I think the staff really cares and would be careful not to let it happen again.

To all you getting banded this week - good luck, keep us informed, have easy surgeries and recoveries!

Hi Everyone, I wish I could go to the support meeting tonight but I won't be in town until the 16th, I sure hope the weather will be better by then. Woofay,........... I also take Effexor ER and have been told to open the capsule and mix it in alittle applesauce, etc...... My prescribing Dr. and the pharmacist told me that, it has little med balls??? in each capsule so it stays an XR, just don't chew it. I would talk to your prescribing Dr. and a pharmacist about this particular med. As for my other meds I crushed them at 1st and then graduated to splitting them in half and now I can swallow anything because i'm in need of a fill. I would talk to the pharmacy because one of the meds i'm on can be split but is not recommended to be crushed. As for everyone else............ I did use the dulolax the night before, it was no big deal, and I was able to wear my regular bra and undies with no problem on the way home, I just wore a stretchy jogging suit home from the surgical center and home to Wisconsin the next day. I tried to find a sports bra and they all seemed to squeeze me. Good Luck to everyone that is being banded soon, I love mine, keep us posted, Sunnysea:)

Mal - Congrats on your date! Just think of how to get yourself ready, start practicing eating slowly, drinking lots of Water, etc. I am surprised that it is a month, but then, I think there is a plan for all of us. So you'll be banded sooner than you think.

Sunnysea - Wow! You are losing weight really well. I will have to deal with the med issue with both Dr. k and my pharmacists. I go to King Soopers and they know me there. I will just have to pick a slow time so I can talk with them.

Thanks DrewsLou -

I was panicing. It is hard enough to take them whole, then to have to slice and dice. FORGET IT!!!! Six days into PreOp I lost five pounds, I'm so happy. I know it is Water weight, but I wanna get below 200 by June. I really want to meet you. You are one of my heros too. I hope you'll consider coming to the May meeting. Maybe afterward we can go out for an ice tea or something?

It Hibiclens. It comes in a blue bottle. The Wal-mart and Target pharmacies can order it for you, or you can get it off the shelf at Walgreens. It's around $9.99.

He'll want you to do a Dulcolax Suppository the night before. I did mine and it worked in about an hour. I figured I didn't want to take a chance on anything. He said it makes it easier to work in there if your bowels are clean. It's up to you to do it, I guess.

You'll get a prescription for about 20 anti-nausea suppositories to use after the surgery. I did not use them. I just kept the anti-nausea patch on behind my ear that they gave me before surgery. I kept that on for about 4 days. I did end up using the anti-nausea suppositories a few weeks ago though when I had the flu. I couldn't get to the walk-in clinic until late in the day (and Dr. K was at his daughter's wedding) so I was stuck with no anti-nausea medicine except for the suppositories. Boy, was I glad I had them. I did not want to vomit with the band!

Here's a link with more info on the prescriptions...

I wore an underwire bra to and from the surgery. I did not have any problems. You might have an incision between your breasts right at about bra strap level like I did. It was annoying and kind of tender, but I still wore all my normal underwire bras.

I wore underware to and from the surgery. They prefer you do not wear undies during the surgery, but do have little paper ones if you ask. Underware is not going to cause you discomfort after the surgery, so I'd plan on wearing them. Your incisions are high on your midsection. Even if you have the "granniest" of panties, it won't be a problem.

THANKS SO MUCH FOR THE INFO!!!!!!! HELPS ME FIGURE OUT WHAT I WILL DO.

Hey Everyone!

I Wish I Could Make The Meeting But It Is Tuff With My Work Schedule. Maybe In May.

Congrats Mal.. May 18 Will Be Here Before You Know It!

Woofay! Let Me Know If You Decide To Drive Up Earily And Stay.. I Am Still Thinking We Will Drive Down. But I Do Agree That An Accident Would Not Be Fun After Surgery.

Drewslou.. You Are Doing Awesome!

About The Pill Thing.. I Also Heard (and My Mom Does This Since Her Gastic Bypass) Any New Meds She Gets She Take A Shot Glass And Fills It With Warm Water.. About As Warm As You Think Your Stomach Is, And Plop The Pill In.. If It Dissolves In 15-20 Minutes She Can Just Take It.. Other Wise She May Have To Cut It In Half Or Crush It Because It Wont Break Down In Time In The Little "pouch". I Only Have One Med That I Take Reg. Liq. Advil For My Headaches And That Dissovles In That Time Frame.. I Worry If I Get One Of My Bad Headaches While On liquids What To Take Then.. But Guess I Will Cross That Bridge With I Get There.

 OKAY..those of you who have had the surgery.. I need your help because the 2 times I try to ask this question... I turn so red I cant get the words out. Its not much easier to type it but.. I have no clue on the answer. How long after surgery did, or should, one wait before.. umm.. "rollin' in the hay"? :D

One should wait until they feel ready.... or can't stand it anymore!! Just mind your port (it will be tender) and you will be fine!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
