:peace: Congrats Woofay and Tater!

:)

Ya that highway is full of pot holes. I commuted to Co Springs when my son was in the hospital. :bump:

I am so proud of both of you.

Woofay - what time was your surgery?

I can't believe you got on the internet already. You obviously will recover quickly. :clap2:

Let us know how it goes!

Hugs and best wishes,

Michelle

Misty (aka Tater Bug asked me to post this on the sight)

Complications

Hey Dynamo,

sick.gif I have been back for many hours but was too sick and in pain to get on. I am barily holding my head up to type and cant really see what words are coming out on the screen.

I am not banded yet.

They had complications with me on the talbe ttying to get the large breatheing tube down my throat. I have such a short neck, and small mouth that when they did.. My toungue and throat swelled shut. Folks are telling I stopped breathing for a bit but Dr. K and all worked fast and got me breathing on my own. I guess that they also tried using a smaller tube but by that time nothing would work.

My mouth and tongeu are stil swollen and hurt like I never thought they could hurt. My jaw where it connects, throbs I guess from trying to get my mouth to open more. and we are not even going to touch on my throat.

I got violently sick on the ride home as well as a few times once home. Even with the patch!

I guess that I am still full of the different chemicals to put one to sleep which is why I am so tiredd. I am better though after I was able to nibble on some toast.. it has setteled my stomach.

Dr. K said this was was first time anything like this has happened and (if I remember right) he was upset that I thought this was somehow my fault. I still kinda do.. but I did everything I was told to do... but I guess that there isn't naything I can do to control the way i was made.

They want my swelling to go down and I will reschudle after a week or so. And the exact same staff wants to do it next time (if okay with me and it is!) the sleep guy knows how they are going to treat me... just have me breathe on my own during the surgery... still put me under but not assistance to breathe.. That with me.. that is the best way. So I am confident in their treatment and handleing of me..

Right now I am just raw emotions.. I hurt, I was sick, Im not banded and now I am more scared. I know that I am in perfect hands otherwise they would have just done surgery regardless. They all are so wonderful down there! Even after I woke up in such an emotional state. Yes.. I thought I was banded when I first was woke with all the pain in my mouth and neck.. then I really lost it when I was told I wasn't banded. I still crying.

So.. when I go back in I need to find out hwo not to get as sick as I did today. I had a taste of how I will feel afterwards of being banded due to the anisteitic but I vomit as violently as I did today I will want to die... I wanted to die today.

So needless to say I am an absolute wreck!

I know that it is nobodys fault, and not my fault but somehow I still feel like a failure. My family and I are firm believers that "whats meant to be will be when it is meant to be... but tonight.. that is a hard thing to swallow.

I am going back to bed.. I finally got a whole toast down me and some mroe sipps of gingersale.

If you would be so kind to either copypaste or just post what is going on with me on Kirshenbaums thread and the April 2007 thread I would greatly appricate it.

Please Please Please...Keep me in your prayers that I will be strong and that the next time.. is the correct time for me to be banded.

If Woofay heard a chicken sh't howlerin' for her momma.. that was me. Odd.. its funny how when I was in that much pain and scared so totally out of my mind that I wanted my Momma.. just like a little child.

Just to let you know and everyone else using that facility..THEY ARE AWESOME!!!!!!!!... Before they were wonderful... and after what happened to me... one nurse held my hand the whole time.. even after my mom came back. She did not even try to let me go.. I guess that at that momment I just needed to be touched and conncect by both hands. And she was 100% ok with that. YOu dont find such careing and wonderful people much!

Yes I am very afraid now... but not because of the doctors, nurses, or faciliies... nothing like that.. I am more afraid of my own body. and I am horrified that I will vomit next time like I did today. It was painful without being banded... So please.. I can't beg you enough to please pray for me. cry.gif

Thank you so much!

I am sure that I will be feeling more like myself tomorrow.

Thanks ahead of time for letting everyone know.

Tator Bug, OMG i'm so sorry to hear this, just wasn't expecting any problems. I will pray for you and hope that you will be feeling better soon. I guess the only good thing is that now they know that you cannot have that tube down your throat, if this would have been surgery for an immeadiate trama that they had to get in this could have had a diff devastating outcome. My thoughts and prayers are with you, Sunnysea

Woofay, Congratulations on being banded! Did you have your surgery at the surgical center across from Dr. K's office or in Parker? Glad to hear everything went well, take care, Sunnysea

I had it done in Parker. What a really nice facility! It's failrly new and they have a player baby grand playing as you go in the doors. Very caring, helpful, and sincere people. I only have hopitals from Phoenix to compare to, but compared to them this place was like a resort.

sunnysea~ I set up my weight ticker thingy, but I don't know what to do to have it show up with my post/signature. How do I get it over here?

Hey everyone!

Thanks so much for the prayers.. they are working. I feel much better everywhere but my mouth and throat, but not much can be done about that. After eating some toast it got better just felt like I had been drinking for hours. I think the swelling in my mouth is down a little, but cant really tell cause its was so swollen that I kept biting it myself.

I plan on eating lots of icecream, pudding, Jello, and popsickles, acutally.. I am having a flavor ice otter pop this am for Breakfast. It helps iwth the pain and I hope with the swelling cause its cold. I really feel like a little kid who had thier tonsils taken out... all the cold "sweet treats". now I want to go watch cartoons... hehe.

Thank you all for the prayers!!! I am feeling them. I am not as scared or as miserable as I was yesterday.

The Doc know what they are going to do different next time.. either have me totally breathe on my own or if needed maybe use a very small tube/childs tube.

Nothing ever goes easy for follks in my family, so I should have expected something. Dr.K said that they will work me in after a week or so after the swelling is gone... and right now... I am not scared to give it another try. I was yesterday, and I am sure I might be right before.. but for now.. at least we know what can go wrong. this is the first time anything like this as happened to them... So.. guess that I am just the wild card in the bunch! LOL.

I think that I mentioned eariler... the staff and faciity are awesome!!! Even with me throwing a wrench in the middle of things, they were wonderful. I have never been treated better!! And after what happened.. if it would have been any of the other places I have gone too.. I dont know if I would go back... but Dr. K and his staff - I look forward to my new surgery date.

Woofay! Congrats so much!!!! I am glad to hear that it went well for you! Hopefully the soreness isn't too bad, and that the meds help with it! I was so looking forward to meeting you yesterday.. but we will just have to make plans sometime...

Again, thank you everyone for your love and prayers!!!

Dyno and Lapdancer... best wishes and my prayers are with you for your surgies coming up. Dont let what happened to me make you more nervous.. like I said.. I am the wild card. Odds are that they will come across this situation agaiin for many years if ever.

I did it! Woo hoo! Man was I scared and a big baby, but that surgicenter has the kindest and caring nurses and employees I've ever seen. I' m a little sore, but seem to be doing great. I did take some pain medicine when I got home. I never realized just how crappy the freeway is between the Springs and Denver, not until I felt every bump and pothole from there to here! Got home around 8...now I'm thinking about doing the stairs to get to my room...hmmmm! HA!:)

Thanks for everyone's support and I still can't believe I really did it.

For you guys on Monday and Tues...it's not nearly as bad as one can imagine. I sure blew it way outta proportion in my head. Keep us posted!

Tater, Tater, Tater...how ya doin?

I've crossed over to the "lighter side", and I was still down 12# on the hospital scale....gotta get that ticker thing done!:clap2:

ANITA WOO HOO! You're on your way now! Congratulations.

Misty sending love your way.

They now know how you are made. They understand the complications that happened the first time and now know what to do going in the second time.

Rest easy. Don't be hard on yourself. You love yourself enough to want to do this so you can be healthy.

Peace and light.

LD

Just saw this! Glad a day made a big difference and you are feeling better. You'll get there, I've no doubt. And you'll see that success. Big HUG.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
