Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum

Recommended Posts

Do you think it may just be swelling from the fill/unfill?
Possibly... I PB'd pretty severe on Wednesday night. So I do think I am more irritated than normal. I ate some bread that refused to go down. Wasn't expecting that at all. I haven't had restriction after a fill like that before, and certainly didn't expect it after being told I had a leak.

Dr Monash just called me back and we both agreed to wait on the procedure and just check my level on Tuesday. If I am experiencing any level of restriction, there is no reason to rush a procedure like that.

Guess I will see where I am at on Tuesday and decide where to go from there. :Dancing_sorry:

Marie!

I agree! I love fills!

I haven't had many - in fact - Deb was right, I'm also an oddity! I had restriction coming out of the shoot! (hahaha!) And kept my restriction for a long time, then I got a fill and had great restriction! I hadn't had a fill for 6 months! Insane! Anyway, I have really good restriction now AND I do mean really good! I can hardly eat! Yesterday I was lucky to get in 500 calories! My www.fitday.com is shocked! Yesterday, I made my one cup of chili and sat down to eat, after 2 tbsp my nose was running, I was hiccuping AND I had to stop! Sadly, I covered it and put it back in the fridge. It was so good!!! AND I didn't get hungry for over 5 hours!!!

I better lose a lot of weight over this! Because I'm eating like a bird!!! (tweet tweet tweet!)

Okay, yes! I'm eating like a squirrel! A squirrel with a Lap Band!

It's insane to even consider it, but who ever said I wasn't a little insane?

Did you?

Nope! I think not!

Goodness, I hope my first fill is that pleasant! I'm doing well Marie, but I gotta be honest - I've been swimming around within the same half a pound since Tuesday, and I'm bummed. :cool2: I know this is the time for healing, but dangit, I'm sad.

I'm doing so good ladies. Saving money, yes I am! I've been clipping grocery coupons for a few weeks now. I just made my Thanksgiving Day menu, and I plan to shop for the best bargain all around! My husband is so happy that I'm trying to save money! ;)

You know, I'm cooking dinner for both families this Thanksgiving. I'll be exactly 3 weeks post-op, and Turkey Day is my first day of solids! I don't know why I signed up for this job, haha. Thankfully, my wonderful mother will be here to help me through it and make sure I don't leave the gizzards inside the turkey when I put it in the oven...among other things. :cool2:

I know the feeling. It made me kind of depressed before I got my first fill. But don't worry, the wait will be over soon, and you will start losing again! We've all been there.

Hello,

I was not banded by Dr K, but have met a few of you wonderful ladies already. I hope you don't mind me reading your posts? I was wondering if you guys would mind me getting in on this challenge? (if you don't want me too, I understand... but I'm thinking no matter who did our surgery we are all in this together)

Looks like you guys had fun on the 4th. I'm sorry I couldn't make it... my daughter had a bad cold, and we stayed in MI longer than planned. I was so bummed about not being able to make it ;(

OMG that would ROCK. Crossing my fingers for that! So far so good. Still seem to have some restriction. Not optimal... but still there.

adorKable~ I hope that this restriction sticks around for you and that you don't have a leak.

Thanks! Me too!

Thanks thanks. So far so good. And yes that PB was HORRIBLE the other night. Hope that doesn't happen again.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
