You can be in our Spreadsheet club! Isn't it fun?

Well, I don't mean to brag, but I also have SPSS which is a program that makes Excel look like a $10 calculator. Yes, I know. I'm super cool. What can I say?

Just a reminder that tomorrow is the beginning of the holiday weight loss challenge. Please weigh yourself and then decide how much weight you'd like to lose by the end of the year. Post your weight loss goal, and then we'll start posting our losses starting next Thursday. Hope that all made sense.

Let's lose that weight by the end of '08!!!!

(sorry, that was the best I could do)

I wasn't going to do the challenge but I decided I would give it a try. I will shoot for 8 pounds. Thanks for tracking all of this

The timing of this post is funny. I am just learning this the past two days. It is so true.

Deb

I have a weird thing though. It's like, the first few bites I feel really really tight, and then it's as if it eases up. Strange. I think I might need another fill though. I've been starting to get pretty hungry again.

You are Super Cool! I am not so cool. I'm a Stat's Nerd. I took a Stat's class at UNM as one of my pre-req for PA school. I just use Excel that way and make a graph. No biggie.

You're much more advanced than I am! I am in awe of you!

Would you like me to gather the names and goals of everyone so far for the challenge?

Okay, after failing miserably on the last challenge, I'm gonna' be conservative and go for 10 lbs.

And, HELLO!!!! I have an Excel spreadsheet too! Don't leave me out of the club!

I didn't realize the challenge was 7 weeks. Instead of the 8 pounds I am going to try for lucky 13. Thanks

You have first bite syndome. I didn't ever have that until now. I have read that if you start with warm fluids before your first bite, you won't get that tight feeling. I drink some warm Water or tea just a few sips and then I can eat.

I think none of us will ever have all the answers, but we will learn as we go.

If you'd like, or I can do it. Either way.

Yes, being a stats nerd is really fun. In grad school we had four semesters of statistics. It was incredibly hard but I learned a ton. I was explaining to a student today that I view doing stats as opening a present . . . you spend all that time and effort gathering data and then the statistics are the big surprise at the end where you get to see if you found anything interesting. Lame. I'm so lame.

Hmmm, I should try that. I've been stuck kinda bad a few times on my first bite. I've only PB'd twice, but it sure is an uncomfortable sensation when things get stuck going down. Yuck.

Nothing lame about you! Or your words! I think like you! I love learning new things. Opening the findings of a study is like opening a gift!

It is! I get so excited when it's time to do data analysis.

I think a long time ago I told you guys about one of my McNair scholars, a young Latina who was accepted to U of Minn. to study developmental cognitive neuroscience. She is doing neuroimaging studies of Romanian orphans (they are now in their teens) and comparing their brain development based on a particular variant of a gene that some of them carry that may be protective of brain development even in the face of severe deprivation. How freakin' cool is that?

AND she and her fellow students are starting a podcast where they will tell parents about all the cool new brain research about kids.

That is freaking cool! Amazing! She's a fortunate young woman to be able to take part in that study!

Yep. This is a young woman who is a survivor of sexual abuse, daughter of a teenage mom who grew up dirt poor. And now she's in the number one PhD program in the country (in our field) doing one of the coolest studies I've ever heard of. YAY!!!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
