I've been reading other posts and have seen many others talk about leak tests and drains. I didn't have either of those. Why do some get it and others don't? Did they forget to give me a leak test? Should I call my dr? I'm nervous!!

After surgery when you were in the hospital they didn't take you to an xray area and have you sip something?? And I didn't have a drain, no worries there.

Hello, Every surgeon is different I had a drain but I did not have a leak test. I am sure that your surgeon has his/her own way of testing for leaks. If you are having issues associated with leaks by all means contact your doctor, if not I would not worry about it to much and enjoy the journey.

Did you go to x ray and drink gastrin. If so you had a leak test. I would be concern and be pro active and call him and ask.

My surgeon did two leak tests. One while I was still under he filled my stomach with saline and checked for bubbles and the second test was the morning after, I drank some liquid and they watched it on a CT scan or something to ensure no leaks. I'm sure your surgeon has some test that he does.

My surgeon didn't do a leak test. And he said some people get drains, some don't. Everyone is different. I had a drain overnight in the hospital, another of his patients there didn't.

No worries!! :D

It was the worst part of the surgery not being able to sip anything or have ice chips for 24 hours before the leak test. I was given some kind of swabs that were moistened with I don't know what but not Water to rub on my lips and in my mouth. After the test I was given ice chips. Does any of this sound familiar?

My Surgeon does the leak test in the OR. Do you recall if your pee was green in the beginning? If so, you probably had it then.

Ok maybe he did it in the OR. My urine was a funny color in the beginning so maybe that's why. I wonder why he wouldn't give me a 2nd leak test just to make doubly sure there was no leak? I haven't had any leak issues so I guess I'm ok but was just wondering. Thank you all for responding. It's amazing how varied the surgeons are for the same procedure. The beauty of being different!! ;) Now that I feel better, it's time to have a oh so delicious Protein Shake. Yay!! :( Have a wonderful Saturday all!!

I had leak test while still in surgery and then pre-discharge w/CT. Also had drain to monitor for excessive bleeding and to watch for any leak test dye.

My surgeon did the leak test in the OR. I asked him about it and that is the only one he does. I also did not have any drains. I am 3 weeks out and am feeling fine. I trust my surgeon and his confidence. You should be fine.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
