I've had a ton of surgeries in my life but this one is taking the cake on getting me nervous! I'd rather go back through spine surgery then this one.

Don't get me wrong..I WANT to do this...I NEED to do this but can you please share your surgery experience with me? How did you feel after and what should I expect when it comes to pain? Any other info you can give would be great too!

Wow....look at all the responses I really appriciate everyone taking the time to answer q's to my fears! I see from everyones responses that it could go either way. I know from my past surgeries I've always tried to be the good patient so I'm hoping I'll be able to fight through the pain and get my butt up and walk as soon as I can. About the drain...my dr did mention something about a tube being put in along the staple line. Does this sound like the drain some of you are talking about??

I had complications that kept me in hospital 9 days, and made my first 3 - 4 months kind of rough, leaving me some doubts if I did the right thing. The good news is those kind of complications are not common and the really great thing is that even with those troubles. I am so unbelievably happy that I did this. My life was so miserable and limited before surgery I could literly not stand or walk for more than a couple minutes with my eyes tearing up with the pain. No medicine touched that pain. Now 10 months post surgery I have gone from a high weight of 374 to 208 for a total of 166 pounds. My debilitating back pain is GONE and my knee and hip pain are much improved. I am off most of a long list of medications. The list of positives so much outweighs the negatives. I am now actually living my life, feeling good physically and regaining self esteem each day. Of course you are nervous, this is a big step, but its so worth it. I KNOW that I will reach my goal of achieving a. healthy weight which is something I never felt confident about in all my attempts to lose weight throughout my life since I was 12 - 13 years old, and believe me, I tried them all, numerous times. I will be sending prayers and positive thoughts that you will grow comfortable and confident in your decision and that you'll soon be reaping the benefits of your decision and rocking your new sleeve. Sorry this was so long.

I'm a big baby and had my first surgery in may, my gallbladder, lets e tell you that was horrible I was barely walking after two weeks, I was in a wheelchair for a while because my tummy hurt so bad. This surgery I was walking the next day and hardly any pain when I got home...I had the drain in for a week..now that's a weird feeling when it's being pulled out..I had glue holding my incisions, one incision rejected it and it has just now finally healed completely. It's so nice hearing everyones stories Thank you so much for sharing! I'm glad to know that most have had no problems. I know this is totally up in the air for me though as everyone is different but it does make me feel a little better about taking this plung that I'm not alone! I'm sure you all will hear a lot more from me before this is over..lol!!

Yep.. Everyone pain is different and docs close the incision differently also.

I had glue, a drain that was removed on second day.. As said before it was the weirdest strangest feeling. I was lucky and had no issues and was up a couple hours after surgery. Never stopped going since!

I've had several bariatric surgeries and only had bad gas in my shoulders on one of them. I've had 3 ten lb babies and laparoscopic surgery is a piece of cake in comparison

I thought after 24 hours it was a breeze... I am nearly 5 weeks out and wouldn't be concerned about doing it again!

Hey my surgery was a breeze! This is my second laposcopy surgery so I know all about the gas pains afterwards so I begged my doctor to remove as much of the gas after the surgery and I think he did just that because I hardly had gas pains. Incision itch like crazy because of the healing process.

For me the worst part was watching the commercials after surgery when ur still on ur liquid diet. My advice is to focus on mentally preparing ur self for the mental hunger and cravings. Everything else was smooth for me! Good luck

I agree... I wasn't as prepared mentally for the after diet... Had no idea what to expect really

So the Dr can remove the gas? Cool...I'll have to remember that one. Yeah...I am definitely a comfort food eater. So I know that will take some getting used to but I'm also determined not to fail. This HAS to work!!!!!!

No drain or staples. 2 weeks out and feel great. Much more pain with gall bladder surgery. I couldn't get up and town alone with gall bladder surgery. I could with this and felt good day 3 on.

Does everyone get a "drain?" Do you get sent home with it?? This is news to me.....oh dear...

I have a drain still in but get it out tomorrow at five days post op. As for pain I havr had no real pain or even gas pain. Very sore yes but not painful. Hope this helps

The drain is more of a hassle than anything else. I will have mine in for about 9 days and my husband drains it for me. I haven't used much of my pain meds because it taste awful but the pain hasn't been that bad. Good luck!!
