  1. Coleman70 ~ I haven't had my surgery yet but I did have surgery once where the iv needle poked through my vein. Which caused a lot of swelling because all that fluid went into my body and not into my vein. I'd still call and ask though!
  2. Hello My name is Stephanie and I'm new here. I"m looking forward to getting to know all of you I've done everything I need to do except my nutrisionist apt which is scheduled for mid Dec. I'm planning on having surgery in Feb. We are going on a vaca at the end of Jan so that's why I've decided on waiting till we get back. At that point I can totally focus on myself and nothing else. I have a friend who had the RNY several years ago. She is her surgeons picture perfect patient :/ She's been telling me that her surgeon doesn't even perform the Sleeve because of the major problems that come along with it. So of course this is scaring me to death and making me feel like maybe I should get the RNY. She's also telling me that if I ever got esaphgas or stomach cancer I'm pretty much screwed. I'm a cancer servivor so this is a concern of mine!!! She sent me the following pros and cons list. Here are my list of pros and cons Gastric Bypass Faster weight loss Higher complications Reversible Less likely to regain Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy Slower weight loss Less complications Not reversible Higher chance of regain I'm getting very nervous and feel like I'm making a horrible decision in getting the sleeve. Although when I read this site I see a lot of good stories from people. I know with any surgery there are risks. I also know that there are also different outcomes for different people. I've done a lot of reading on RNY and Sleeve. I don't like the idea of having things rerouted but then again I don't like the idea of having my stomach cut out :s My surgoen does RNY but dosesn't like the Vitamin issues people tend to have after. That worries me too about the RNY. I worry about the long term issues with Sleeve. I know staying this way is a death sentence but we have a 3 year old little boy whose the light of our lives. I can't imagine not living a old life and not being there for him. Also we'd like to have another child but that's another story! My husband is supportive but doesn't really talk too much about it. My parents are scared to death to say the least so I don't really feel like I can talk to them and they understand. So of course this friend I have talks to me about it but I feel like she's confusing me even more. I've had 2 back surgeries with the last resulting in fusion. I've still got a lot of issues with my back going on so I'm unable to really get out and exersize at the moment cause of the pain I"m in. I know I need to do something about my weight because it's not going to happen on it's own and I can't seem to do anything that really gives long term results because of my disability. Please can someone help me with my fears and questions?????????? I'm really confused, nervous and scared ;(

Your probably right I'm dreading he liquid diet :/ But at least I'll only have those horrible hunger pains for 2 weeks. After that I'll get full much faster and won't be dealing with it. Can't wait...but also a little nervous! April 10 will be here very soon!!!!

    ANY APRIL SURGERIES?....

Ugh...everyone is getting their dates...I'm still waiting I called today and left a message for the nurse on getting a date. Hope I get a response soon! I"m tired of not knowing how to plan. My fam wants to take off some time around the surgery to help with our little guy.
  13. I've had a ton of surgeries in my life but this one is taking the cake on getting me nervous! I'd rather go back through spine surgery then this one. Don't get me wrong..I WANT to do this...I NEED to do this but can you please share your surgery experience with me? How did you feel after and what should I expect when it comes to pain? Any other info you can give would be great too! I'm freaking here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm also nervous about them cutting part of my stomach out. It's just a weird thought!

baby bullet or something like it?

I have the Williams Sanoma brand of the baby bullet. I plan to use it once I get to pureed! I used it for our son so I figured why let it sit in cabinet and collect dust :-P

  20. ms antiband ~ did you have any of ur babies after a surgery? We'd like to have 1 more.
  21. Lapro. It's so nice hearing everyones stories Thank you so much for sharing! I'm glad to know that most have had no problems. I know this is totally up in the air for me though as everyone is different but it does make me feel a little better about taking this plung that I'm not alone! I'm sure you all will hear a lot more from me before this is over..lol!!
  22. Wow....look at all the responses I really appriciate everyone taking the time to answer q's to my fears! I see from everyones responses that it could go either way. I know from my past surgeries I've always tried to be the good patient so I'm hoping I'll be able to fight through the pain and get my butt up and walk as soon as I can. About the drain...my dr did mention something about a tube being put in along the staple line. Does this sound like the drain some of you are talking about??

  24. Ok so you've had gallbladder removed and this surgery was easier? That's good to hear! When mine was removed it was a horrible feeling after...like someone sliced and diced in there!
  25. Ok...surgeon told me he'd put a tube in where the staples are. That's things coming out after the fact?? :S
