Throwing up when constipated?

Recommended Posts

I've only thrown up 2 or 3 times since being sleeved, and slimed a couple. Each time it seems to happen when I really have to poop and it's finally working its way out. So I wind up on the toilet with a bucket or bag. Does this happen to anyone else?

I haven't thrown up yet, thank god. But when I have gotten backed up (twice now since surgery) I get really sick to my stomach and have felt close to puking. The last time it was so bad I totally thought that if I did throw up it would be poop! Lol! Sorry, gross but it was bad!

That actually can happen. I'm a nurse and it's way too common. They have a nickname for me at work "Poop Queen" or "Poop Nazi". I cannot stand for my patients to miss more than a day or two of going, because it's so miserable to get blocked up. I've had to disimpact too many people. And yes, if it doesn't come out, and backs up, they will start vomiting poop. Not fun for anyone. Constipation can be very serious! Miralax daily to soften. If you're already in trouble, or can't handle drinking the liquids, Senna S is a laxative and stool softener and can be increased to personal effectiveness. :)

See how I earned my nickname? ;)

Omg that sounds like a total nightmare!! My mom has ulcerative colitis and she is always telling me how bad it is to be constipated so I'm already paranoid because of things she has told me and now to think I could puke poop.....ugh!! Yes, I'm taking Fiber chewables right now to keep things moving! Thank you for the info! :)

Yes! That has been happening to me in the past 2 weeks (4 times now)... went to surgeon about it he has no clue. I dont feel like in constipated though. But I only go twice a week. I thought that was fairly normal?

What's been happening in the past two weeks exactly? Pooping puke? I'm confused. :)

Everybody's normal is different. But twice a week would freak me personally out. But just because that's so different from my schedule/normal. With the smaller stomach and food intake, it could be absolutely ok. But I'd have to ask way too many graphic questions to know for sure. Amount when you go, consistency... you get the idea.

Getting to that extreme, puking poop, would be uncommon for a healthy person. It can happen. I've seen it often. It's just not an everyday occurrence! But I also have a lot of oncology patients with GI motility issues from chemo. Or elderly patient's who can't tell people they hurt and can't poop. Most people are going to be so uncomfortable from the Constipation, that they will try to fix it before it gets to the extreme point of puking poop.

If you are going on a fairly regular basis, I wouldn't get too worried about it. Don't let it rule your thoughts. Just pay attention to the cues your body gives you.

This may be too graphic for the board. lol If so, you can PM me. ;)

Not puking poop, throwing up during a BM (bile if I havent eaten recently or if I have recently eaten whatever I just ate). and really bad abdominal cramps. I am perfectly healthy otherwise!

Oh okay! Oops. For some reason, I totally missed that. I have no idea why that would happen. If your surgeon doesn't know, I wonder how common it is. Hate to say it, but I would probably google it! :D

Um, one more - if you are having to strain hard to poop, I wonder if that would be the cause for the vomiting?

I'm not straining .... its more the pain from the abdominal cramps that I think is likely to be the cause!! Might need to make more of an effort with fibre rich foods and fingers crossed it just gets better!!

I'm not messing with it anymore. I bought a huge bottle of Fiber gummies yesterday, they taste better than those huge chewable tablets. Hopefully I won't need them as much as I start eating more Fiber, but I'm not taking any chances right now!

Oh, ouch! Wonder if the cramping should get better with time? I sure hope so. Fiber would definitely be worth a try. Hope it gets better. Has to be miserable.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
