Who has been more supportive - your fat friends or your skinny friends?

Recommended Posts

Amen to Gman and Rycherchick! It's called growth and evolving......my mother always told me everybody is not going to be your friend, no truer words have ever been uttered. My friends and family have all been supportive no matter what size. My work colleagues have been amazing. For me the physical size of my friends and their support does not even fit into the equation.

Really?!? Thats not very nice of them! If I were you, I wouldnt let comments like that bother you, in fact, if they chose to say things like that to you, I'd offer that perhaps you're better off without friends like that.

Honestly, I was shocked at by that comment and still am. I had no idea this person was so shallow. I feel for her and her issues. However, I will not be around anyone that treats me that way. We really do not talk much anymore. It is just sad to me that this has happened. But, not in my control! My desire to get healthy was not only physical.... If it takes removing people from my life then I will!!!

Thank you for your honesty!!! Tina

Omg, I cant believe someones friend would say, Great, nowI will be the fattest person in the group? Who the hell are some of these " Friends"?

I am older so I dont surround myself with shallow people. I have a few friends but tbey are all loving and uplifting. I could never be friends with anyone who is jealous of me. I guess its a 40`s thing. Everyone is supportive of me. You gotta cut people who dont have your best inyerests.

I know I could not believe it either...... Sad for her! It is her loss....

I would have to say the " thinner people" have been more supportive. I have had a few awkward and sad situations with my "fat" friends. Even to the point it bothered them I got full so fast. I got a few comments like " Oh Great" now I will be the fattest one in the group. When that type of conversation happened it was the last time we got together. I guess we all realized that some how it just got unhealthy. I personally would be there for any one of them that wanted to deal with their weight. However' date=' they are not ready. I refuse to feel bad about such a positive thing in my life. So the big friends and I have just pulled away from each other. It seems to have been a mutual thing really. We do call each other to catch up... But even those calls are short and sweet. Sad bit true... I have to admit I didn't see that one coming![/quote']

QUOTE OF THE DAY: I REFUSE TO FEEL BAD ABOUT SUCH A POSITIVE THING IN MY LIFE!!!!!! PRICELESS!!!! :)

Actually' date=' I am not shocked but my friends that struggle with weight have been....different....counting there calories in front of me....telling me how little they are eating....inspecting my body everytime I see them.....it is a little weird....it feels like a competition..

Unfortunately, one that no one will win because I am only 3 weeks out and have lost over 35 lbs due to a slight complication. I don't want this to be a competition but I see this going south....fast

I am only about 2 and 3 sizes away from them and I am afraid when I am no longer the "biggest", it will be different....is there something I should do or say now...this is my closest group of friends on the daily and I would hate to change our relationship.

I felt kind of out of this conversation until your comment about being older so you don't surround yourself with shallow people. Through our lives we were stuck being around folks who were jerkoids due to work and family ties but when we get older we tend to move away and get away from annoyances. I don't have much time for brainless flies buzzing my ears. If you think you're like that at 40 wait until you're in your 60's. <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/huh.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Another Great Quote: "Brainless flies buzzing my ears!!!!" I Love it!!!!! :)

My friends have all been supportive, but the fat ones have been jealous as all heck. They fess to it, though. ;)

I've seen a lot of "competitions" appear since surgery, though. Friends returning to MFP after weeks of absence, new gym memberships, etc. It can go both ways, though. I have a friend that used to be a 16 and is now a size 5, and she's always going on about how she's training for some 5k or entering a race, going to do Tough Mudder, etc. She has yet to mention actually doing ANY of them. I'd love to beat her to the chase!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
