Hello, My name is Michaela and I am new this site. I haven't had the Gastric Sleeve procedure done yet but I have my first appointment March 21st and I think I am beyond excited. :-) I have done heaps of research and watched heaps of YouTube videos which just makes me more anxious. I love the before and after videos to see the once unhealthy people gain their lives back. I can't wait to be on the other side. Can anyone tell me what I should expect on the day of surgery and the right after surgery? Thanks for taking the time to read my post hope to hear from someone soon.

Welcome!! On the day of surgery my nervous got the best of me but I prayed and prayed and the next thing I remember I was in the recovery room. After surgery was not a all in the park. I was in pain and I couldn't drink anything. My advice is for you to prepare yourself mentally. food as you know it now will be different. I'm almost 2 weeks out and can't believe how different my taste buds have change. I want to eat but I can't and that's something mentally that I'm struggling with. Listen to your Dr. And your body. I hope this helps some!!

Thanks for the heads up. My best friend is a year out and she looks great she also has told me that right after the procedure wasn't a walk in the park. I'm pretty excited but also pretty nervous. With the way I think I feel as though something may go wrong :-(... If you don't mind me asking how much weight have you lost so far?

I'm new to this site also. My first appointment is the 27th. Just like you I have watched the millions of videos on YouTube and LOVE the before and after pictures. I am beyond excited and trying to prepare myself for anything that's thrown my way. Glad to find someone else that's just getting started like me :-)

I am new as well. Everything has gone very fast because my insurance approved my procedure as soon as my primary dr recommended it. I went to surgeon on March 13th and my surgery is March 27th. I was set on the bypass until my surgeon said sleeve was the best option. I am soooooo excited.

You'll do great I am 4 days post op. the worst is the gas. Use Gas X strips. They help a lot. I started my full liquids today. My favorite thing to drink is chicken broth. I tried watered down apple sauce a lot and sipped it with a spoon. I couldn't finish it. Trying to get down 4 oz of liquid every hour for 11 hrs is a challenge. Just takes some getting used to. Good luck!

Can I ask why ou chose the sleeve verses bypass? Does your dr feel the results will be the same?

All I can do is smile.. My butterflies are fluttering big time and I don't even have a set surgery date. Just a consultation appointment and I don't really know how to feel.. Does anyone know how long the procedure takes and what meds are given for pain?

I'm going for the sleeve because my GP says the bypass has more risk with it and you have to take heaps of meds for the rest of your life while with the sleeve its more Vitamins that need to be taken. I look at it as with the bypass you are losing your stomach all but a little tiny piece which can't produce all of the digestive enzymes you need for the digesting process and with the sleeve since the only remove 2/3 of the stomach the sleeve portion still produces enzymes.

Hello and welcome! I had my surgery on Feb 26th, and it went smoothly. I was up and walking the hospital halls a few hours later and haven't looked back.

So, I started the process a year ago..... After insurance denial, I am self pay. Advised the bariatric center last Tuesday and they are working with the surgeon on a date! I am super excited! I don't have a lot of patience with anything so this entire process is putting me to the test! Hopefully, I will get a date this week! Best of luck to us all!

I too am very excited, nervous and scared to death! My surgery is going to be April 1st or 2nd. I will find out Friday when I see my Dr. for the pre-op visit on Friday. I still have not decided if it will be the sleeve or bypass. We will decide that on Friday. I go for my Barum swallow test on Monday. It is all coming up so fast. I'm just trying to keep focused on how much better my health will be. Good luck to you!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
