Hello,

I had my endoscopy today - another step down! I am slightly concerned however. The Dr. found some inflammation and did a biopsy. He thinks it could be from excedrin and ibiprofin use. I am concerned that this my hinder my ability of having the sleeve done. Anyone have any experience with inflammation and if so, did it cause any issues with having hour surgery scheduled?

Thanks!

A similar thing happened to me. They found inflammation on my EGD, as well as an ulcer (caused by the inflammation). So they started me on a daily dose of Prilosec, and then I had a follow-up EGD 2 months later and everything had healed fine by then. Try not to worry...my docs told me this is a fairly common thing, and that the acid reducers along with avoiding known irritants can easily turn things around. The only downside for me was that it delayed getting my surgery date for another couple of months, but it's all Water under the bridge now. Going in for my sleeve on 4/22! Good luck, and hope it works out the same for you!

I'm no doctor (although wouldn't mind the pay)....but I'd think it couldn't hurt to take the Prilosec. Particularly if you already feel you have issues with GERD, heartburn, etc. The only thing with Prilosec is that it doesn't kick in instantly...you have to keep taking it for a little while. So might be best to just wait and see what comes of the EGD then. Worst case scenario is that maybe you just need to follow a course of medicine for a short period of time before having surgery. At least it's not usually a show stopper. I hope! Good luck :)

The biopsy is part of the EGD process- totally normal. Same with the gastritis (inflammation). Tylenol and ibuprofen pre-op are ok, just be certain to take them with a little food to reduce the irritation. None of these factors will affect your surgical dates unless they are severe, accompanied by an ulcer, h pylori positive, or the biopsy is abnormal.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
