Help! Less than 3 weeks away & STILL undecided!

Recommended Posts

I know I'm new here and still don't have my surgery date scheduled yet but this is what one thinking of. First, I have my brother as an example and he's the one that talked to me about getting this done as he did in Oct 2012. I've watched his quality of life get better and relationship with his wife and kids get closer! Here's what I'm doing! I think of how I feel now...fat, lazy, ugly, inhibited to do the things I want to do in the way I want to do them, I think back on the day several years ago where I got on a roller coaster with my nephew and couldn't fit...the workers tried and tried and gave up and I had to walk the walk of shame off the ride as everyone that was waiting on the ride watched!!! Totally completely feeling like I was the largest person ever!! I'm not saying u feel like me but these are the things that are driving me forward! I finally got to the place where I had to admit...I can't do this without help....and it's not easy for me to give up control!

I've started to sorta "train" now. I'm juicing, and not drinking with meals, finding things I can have later that are perfect ounce sizes and trying them now to make sure I like them! Lol! Training my mind when I go out to eat that this will be changing and packing half my food for later. Am I 100% on things...nope! But I'm preparing myself!

In the end I think of my life now and how I feel and how I want to feel and will feel, wear what I want and not have clothes hurt sometimes! Feel healthy, pretty, like a woman! Right now I feel just...well like a shape! Round! Lol! It's gonna be a challenge, some major changes, some work! But I've trained myself to be how I am now so I can retrain myself! The trial is outweighed by my confidence and self esteem enhancing to come!

Hope this helps! We are here for each other!! Sorry I'm so chatty tho, lol!! :-)

Hi there,

I, too, am in the process of deciding on surgery through food training. I get close to achieving goal weight, and then eat poorly. Without restriction, the 1200 calorie food plan is challenging. I have to give myself permission "not to be ready" yet. It's been almost a year since I attending my first orientation. Maybe I would do better to say "I am still deciding and in food training" than to say "I just can't lost the last 5 pounds."

Hope you do well this Monday.

I tried to cancel my surgery as they were getting ready to prep me. My mom, sister, and boyfriend would not let me. Id mentioned cancelling a few times before and they always talked it through with me and I always ended up being more sure than ever. I knew I was ready but I told the nurse taking my blood pressure that I was not ready and that I was going to cancel. The look she have me replaced an entire lecture... I'm sure she had heard it before and had practiced that look many times.

Needless to say I sucked it up and got sleeved and BOY am I happy about it! I was educated, ready, and rearin to go! I've never looked back.

I'm on day 5 of my pre-op diet and, although I was 100% confident in my decision before now, I'm freaking out. I read an article on obesityhelp about bougie sizes, and it said 32 is the most common used, and the 32 has a size equivalent to a ballpoint pen. For some reason this just freaks me the hell out. I always thought our new stomachs were about the same width as a banana -- but apparently not! I have my pre-op seminar on Wednesday, and I really hope to talk to my surgeon about bougie size. I know that poor food choices got me here, but I want to know that I will eventually be able to enjoy pizza, Bagels, and other favorites on very rare occasions... If my sleeve is the width of a pen -- or slightly larger -- will bready food items even be able to make it in there, even if thoroughly chewed?

It's natural to have thoughts like you are having. I did not care about my bougie size, I felt this was best left to the surgeon, he is the expert. Remember the surgery is more than just physical. There is something about the surgery that changes you. I am 17 weeks out and down 170 LBS, and I could care less about pizza and alike. People eat pizza and other treats all around me and just don't care and it doesn't bother me at all.

But if you did decide to eat a few bites of pizza, would you be physically able? I've heard a lot of people have issues with doughy stuff getting "stuck," or at least feeling like it's getting stuck.

Ah, thank you Laura-Ven! I don't know if I'm going to even want pizza, but I just need to know if my sleeve will be able to handle doughy things. It could also be the pre-op diet and lack of carbs that's causing me to dream about pizza and Bagels, and making me fear that I might never ever eat them again.

Your stomach will not be the width of a pencil. The bougie is just a guide for the surgeon's instruments.

I'm on day 2 of my milk and yoghurt preop, and I think I'll be mooing by the end!

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
